    Apache 4.2 Alpha, a release that is yet to be even a twinkle in it's Daddies' eyes. I have found a whole bunch of errors, bad comments, a few scribbles on napkins, some old Populous save games, and a letter to 'Mom' asking for money.

    I compared this to my 'other' server, for now unnammed.

    My 'other' server brought me coffee, 2 pieces toast, 2 eggs OVER EASY, 4 strips of bacon, *and* Smucker's Grape Jelly with nary a mistep, or hesitation. This other server smiled, asked how my wife was, and brought me a new fork when I dropped my first one.

    Congratulations, Gloria! You win the 'great server' award!

    This article isn't worth the 2 dollar tip.

    Windows 98 + LitePC (98lite) = no Explorer or Outlook Express (and a bunch of other crap).

    Add mozilla 1.1 (web and email) and Firebird .6 (web)= Faster Page renders and no email viruses (all attachments go to a special dir and are scanned, that address shouldn't get attachments anyhow...)

    = me happy one man IT dept ;) , spreading the word of OSS and OS X...

    Besides, 'soft walls' can't protect everything. Planes still have to fly over schools, malls, freeways, stadiums, and my fucking house.

    Here is a great printer that uses large ink tanks. Its fast, sturdy, has excellent color reproduction, and can print on most any paper stock.

    Sure, this printer costs more, but it is built to last. The ink tanks are large, easily serviced and refilled, and can be filled with third party ink. (For best results use OEM ink)

    I find that some people don't even know that there are options, or what questions to google to get answers.

    I informed a coworker about Firebird (the browser) and how I haven't seen a popup, popunder, or the like for a year. She didn't even know what a browser was.

    Why question? It's just the way things are. Ugh. Four more years... ;)

    If this lawsuit is won by Lexmark, does that mean that Ford can sue to stop 3rd party parts manufacturers?

    I got a Lexmark Z23 *bundled* with my mac awhile back - the carts are regularly $36+. It prints. I'm actually seeing that a color laser printer is *cheaper* than replacing the ink carts. (I can easily go through one in 2-3 days)

    The people who say 'don't buy one' aren't taking bundled units into account.

    I don't see why Lexmark doesn't give up the chip BS and just make the carts so small as to print one page, no matter what. :P

    Any suggestions for good color laser printers with Ethernet that don't break the bank, and will last as long as my Oki 1200ps? Emphasis on correct color.

    All my computers have Omnis on them - I was lucky ? enough to grow up in Minnesota where Northgate once lived. I was also lucky enough to get an entire box (35+) of 101, 101p, 102, Ultra and Plus.

    I have pounded on them, played Quake for countless hours, beat on them in evey way and I'm still on my first ;)

    If you have an Omnikey - the windows (95,98) software has been posted in my last Journal entry, go check it out. Don't forget macros!

    The 101 bug is highly overrated too. I've had my Omnikey go wacky on me a few times, just pull the cable out, hold down 'esc' and plug back in - full reset.

    I think I've seen an USB to PS/2 adapter of some sort on Tiger Direct? or something...

    I could play an infinite number of tracks on my old Pentium 225 BeOS machine. I've set another one to continually add tracks to the first. Perhaps I will reach a limit someday, but I'll be long dead by then.

    Only 34% of the CPU is being used! I can't wait to try this on the G5.

  21. If you've got machine(s) better than 486 - BeOS! on Build a Multi-Output MP3 Server? · · Score: 1
    You could install BeOS personal edition (coexists with Windows or Linux), or if you're a 'no-Windows' house, MiniMax(full install) Then, install Be in your Stereo w/ RobinHood It's a HTTP server for mp3s and the like.

    If you have an Athlon or pentium 4 - use the new BeOSMax V3 (Direct download). It's got pretty much the newest drivers for BeOS, supporting much more than the personal edition. If you've got a pentium and install Max or MiniMax, use the old Gif Translator (not 1.3, there's an incompatabillity there.)

    I'm guessing that you could run multiple instances of Be In Your Sterio on different ports (8080,8081...) and stream to all your other machines. If you've got bottom of the barrel pentiums, BeOS rocks on those. They should be able to play mp3s fine. 120mhz, 64(ok 32??) Ram, and a 500meg harddrive should do for the clients(don't quote me - it's been awhile since I looked). Check out this page for more links and tips.. I'm sure you could find something else on BeBits that would fit the bill.

    BeOS will let you play about a thousand mp3s at the same time with no skipping, it's got gerbil crack in it or something...
