We hear lots of hype regarding this great new technology. Companies developing the technology start acquiring each other before there is even a deliverable. Stocks soar....

    Haven't we seen this before????

You had to pay because Apple, most likely, has a business presence in your state. This may be a distribution facility or, more likely, an Apple store. With the presence of a retail outlet in your state, they are required by your state to collect local taxes on all sales within that state. It doesn't matter that you placed the order and had the product shipped from California. Many states have had this law in place for quite some time.

The Panasonic machine is like a VCR, you push the button and it does what you want. But, it does so in a modern format and has a few more features than today's VCR. Unlike Tivo, which I feel is severely threatened by the RIAA, this device could indeed be the next VCR.

I don't want a device that can do anything/everything for my television, I already have a few computers. I like this specific function device and when the price hits $500, probably after Christmas, I'll get one. By then, hopefully the price of the media will also have dropped.

Sure, I can get a dial-up with Earthlink but, it uses Verizon's lines. There are also a couple od xDSL providers locally, though I'm not sure I can get many of them at my location, but they still rely on Verizon. With Cable I can get RoadRunner or AOL or even Earthlink as the provider but, no matter who I sign up with I still have to rely on TimeWarner.

I personally I don't regard two providers in a large metropolitan area as being "competition"! Of course, I could still get a T1 from UUNet for $800/mnth but, then again the local loop is from, you guessed it, Verizon!

With this feature, Microsoft clients can connect to the Netware 6 servers without the previously required Novell client. The Netware 6 server looks to the client, like a NT server. Netware 6 also supports an NFS like export that allows *nix clients to also connect natively, without the use of Novell client software.

Netware 6 has a lot of really powerful features. What's more, I think that Linuxers would like it because it has a similar feel, even if the commands are different. Hell, it even runs Xwindows with the IceWM.
