I tend to agree, I never liked the way it rendered pages. Many pages that even Konqueror get's right look horrible in Opera. Their javascript compatibilty needs work too. I used to test pages using several browsers available to me on Mac, Linux and Windows. I stopped testing against opera because it always seemed to be the odd one. So I decided if the page renders correctly in FireFox,Safari, Konqueror,Camino and IE it gets published.

First of all, atheism isn't even really a belief system, unless you also think that football or sandcastle competitions are belief systems.

That was idiotic, so you think atheism is a sport or competition? Aethism is a believe in the supremacy of man and that there is no divine spark, creator or all powerful intelligence. That is a belief system, it takes a faith because how do you prove there is no god, a negative. It takes the the same kind of blind faith to believe in anything you can't measure or prove. And my comments aren't in any way to be interpreted as chrisitianity is right and everyone else is wrong. It's that we should be tolerant of others views aethists don't don't get expelled for expressing their views but others do. It a now become common to sue anyone who 'offends' you. The complete lack of tolerance displayed by those who like to think of themselves as enlightened and intelligent is amazing.

Not contributing to tsunami victims might lessen the population whereby increasing my dominance. Is morality a myth or do we all eventually have to answer for our deeds? My only gripe is for those who are intolerant of anyone who believes in any religion. I'm just as upset with those who enforce their religion on others. I don't want them teaching any religion. Only recognition that other beliefs exist. Teaching religion is the job of churches. What I want to have stopped is the public persecution by teachers of those who do have those beliefs. A teacher can expound on and on about their belief in atheism without predjudice. But let a child wear a cross and watch the shit fly. If the teacher says today is a holiday for pagan's that's cool to me! But in this day and age a teacher can no longer say Merry Christmas! We have become very intolerant as a society all the while claiming we are tolerant. Allowing someone to profess a believe in a religion without being intimidated, beat up or being sued is tolerance.

You limit the meaning of "establishing" a religion to mean sanctioning a named church, and then assert that atheism is established as the official religion...?

By not allowing open public statement of believe in a god, all the while allowing athiest to profess that there is no god, in effect establishes atheism as the "approved believe system".

I had a teacher lecture a class for an hour that religion was the cause of all man's sorrows, made statements such as "more people have died because of christianity than any other cause combined" a statement easily repudiated and was not chastised at all. While a child in that same school was warned against having a bible time during lunch hour. In fact the principle believed the statement was true until it was pointed out that property, jealousy, rage, disease, old age, wars in the name of Karl Marx (communism), Facism and Islam and automobile accidents easily outclassed the crusades.

Teachign a religious belief, even a cleverly hidden one like ID, in a public school is state-sponsored religion

By your definition teaching the Roman & Greek gods is then a state sponsored religion.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

What is said here is Congress shall make no laws "establishing a state religion", meaning that unlike the "Church of England", we would recognize all religous beliefs and allow their worship anywhere, anytime! What this amendment was morphed into is atheism established as the official religion of the US Educational System.

The definition I use for religion is: "An outward expression of a belief system in regards to man's role in the universe and or a divine god or gods."

With the advances we've made in medicine, the fact that war despite what the media reports, is steadily declining worldwide. And the fact that all of the modern wars kill less people than previous wars. There were more people killed in WWII and it's immediate aftermath (Stalin) then all the wars fought since combined. There is nothing except mother nature, or a really big war to bring things back into balance. Since countries that are democracies as a rule do not make war with each other and tend to use economic pressures to maintain the status quo, an agressive China is almost inevitable.

If the US stopped all burning of fossil fuels tomorrow, would it change anything? Does the president make all the laws? If 2/3 of congress had some balls, you even pass an amendment. But would it stop the rest of the world from continuing to burn fossil fuels? How do you reverse what is already done? Seems to me the real solution is to reduce the world human population to about 65 million and develop alternative energy. How do you do this without killing alot of innocent people. It's easy to post blame, it's quite another to accept it. How many of you folks own electric vehicles? How many who complain about fossil fuels would choose tomorrow to live without them? I live in Virginia, in Newport News, 10 years ago you could drive all along the interstate and trees were everywhere. Now you have to get almost to Williamsburg to see anything remotely like a woods. In town trees are cut down everywhere, nothing but asphalt replaces them. This is but one town in one state, in the US. Now multiply that by the entire world. When I was in the service while we were converting to CO2 for HVAC units, the countries were were operating in were using freon. So really who is to blame? I too am to blame, but I don't see a real solution here. Do I deny my kids civilization and move in to a grass hut, hunting small game not endangered? Would that prevent a glacier from melting?
