What is 'true e-commerce'? Sweeping generalizations only make you look like some sort anti-MS nutjob. I have seen many e-commerce setups running MS-SQL that work just fine.

I'm not talking about a 1 or 2 user system either, but something that does 100s of transactions per second.

Yeah, but what kind of idiot tries to use MS-SQL in high volume environments? Know your tools, and use the right tool for the right job. I think that even MS acknowledges that MS-SQL was designed to be for small to mid-sized solutions. If you are running thousands of transactions per second, then you probably can afford to buy into Oracle.

my Windows boxes don't have any MS applications installed, and even have some of the applications that come with the OS uninstalled or disabled, to enabled the system to be somewhat stable.

I have never had any problem with system stability when working with NT systems. What are you running on your servers, win98? What MS applications make a 'system unstable'? It sounds to me like you haven't invested any time in learning how to properly admin a windows server. I have a friend who it a Linux zealot, and he sounds exactly like you. And why should we want to buy such an extremely limited license, when our parents, and even our grandparents, got a better deal by purchasing the physical medium?

My first reaction to the question of accepting DRM enabled media, is never. You can have my mp3's when you pry them from my cold, dead hard drive.

But then, thinking about it, I don't have a problem with DRM so much as the concept of value. The problem with most companies, is they want to sell me a lesser quality version of what I could previously purchase, at the same price. I don't mind having a copy of movie that might self destruct at any moment, but I would only pay about the same cost as it takes to rent such a movie at a video store, rather than the $20-$30 that most movies cost on DVD. My thinking is that a DRM movie is really just 'rented', and it isn't mine to shift as I wish. So, I think the problem isn't DRM, but the expectation of compaines that media with DRM is as valueable as media without it.

You're probably right, but what happens to their domain when Google fixes the problem, and the permanently blacklists it. No problem if you have some cruddy name like, 'MalaysianWombatpr0n.org', but it would be pretty stupid if you redirected to a domain name like, 'Sex.com'.

One other thought, I'm sure that there are spammers all over the world racing to swipe as many top spots as possible right now, but I wouldn't do this in Malaysia. If I recall correctly, they have DRACONIAN laws when it comes to criminal activity. Personally I think getting canned for Google page ranking scams would suck. contractors would play a game of saying that you're still employed with the contracting agency, thus not entitled to unemployment benefits.

However, with copyrights being so long these days, eventually someone will decisde they need a new ferrari or more hookers and blow, and let the studios crank out more sequals/prequals, whatever. Maybe it will be GL's grandkids, maybe it will be his great grand kids, but it will happen. I just hope that whoever gets put in charge of the project(s) has the brainpower to hire some truly brilliant writers and directors, so as to keep the property strong, as opposed to that stinking piece of crap that passes for star treck these days.
