  1. Re:USB memory drive on Gifts Ideas For 'Non-Geek' Types? · · Score: 1

Ditto. My girlfriend has justy received one of these. Her 10000 word assignment was on a floppy. I told her she should have kept a backup (why do people ask a geek's advice and then do the opposite?), but she ignored me and the University computer she tried to use to print it off ate the disk. Made the choice for a Birthday present (her birthday is annoyingly close to Christmas) very easy indeed.

the best way to extract the flavor is to use HOT water

The alkaloids that produce the bitter taste dissolve in water at just above 80 degrees (~144F), so the best approach is to use water that's cooler than you would expect. Still hot, but not HOT.

A GHz processor should do timeshifting - Freevo lists 400MHz as minimum for operation (not including simultaneous enc/dec for timeshifting), and I seem to recall 1GHz being bandied about as recommended for that.

    Yeah, like me ;)
If you have any pointers/ideas, then I'd be glad to hear them. I was leaning towards Freevo myself.

Of course, this means that ANY language, high level or not, can be used, provided that you have the appropriate compiler.

Most compilers are BASIC compilers, but some, such as JAL are more Pascal/C-like.

OK, so he was a bit weird, but he put the ring saga into perspective. Men, Elves and other races view the rise of Sauron as a huge disaster (and for them it is), but Tom and his Goldberry will always be. Sauron has no hope of ever having dominion over them. He views the One Ring as a mere trinket, and wonders what all the fuss is about. The question still remains, though, how exactly is Pippin (? - could be Merry, can't remember right now) going to kill the Witch King without the magic toothpick from the barrows?
