    The only changes I really noticed were the obviouse CGI additions. Other than that, the DVD release is good, and since I haven't seen the movies in about 15 years, it was very enjoyable.

    Debian will run on this just fine. I have an old thinkpad with 48megs of ram, and a 3gig hard drive, and I installed debian on it, and installed blackbox as the window manager.. It runs real nice, and makes a great little trouble shooting box.

    Don't use XPs built in wireless functions, there is a place to turn it off, use the one that comes with your card. In my case, I use the one that came with my linksys card, and I never have problems. my SSID is not broadcasted, I use 128Bit WEP and I also restrict by MAC address =)

    But I bet someday, there will be a hole in the linksys router that will let people in.. sheesh.

    Back when I used to do alot fo tech work, I had a client who allways had to have the latest and best out there.. So he would buy the upgrades, have me come install them and let me keep the old gear.. My home system was always 1 step below top of the line =) Was a nice deal. Also I did a web page design for a client once and along with the money we agreed on, he gave me an old laptop, that I put linux on and still play with once in a while =)

  13. This is what I do. on Build From Source vs. Packages? · · Score: 1

    First I install via a package, if the service does exactly what I want (90% of the time) then thats the end of it. If there is some kind of tweaking that needs to be done, I un-install the package, download the source and compile it with the option I need/want.

    But overall I go packages first. Also as a side note, I use Debian, and the apt-get package manager makes using packages real sweet, it auto solved dependencies. This is the #1 reason I started using packages. I got tired of having to track down odd libraries and such.

    Why is this so astonishing? If you look at this way, how many people can tell you how thier TV works, or how a radio works, or their car.. or even how the city pipes water into your home.

    Alot of people are not savy on technology of any kinda. People in our industry (tech industry) need to know these things to survice, and I also believe that if you are in this industry at all, its because you like to know how everything works =)

    I too, was a dish network subsriber for many years, and I got so tired of their crappy service, that I just went with cable.

    A few years ago, something just like this happened, scrolly messages and everything.. People called in and complained, and the channels were kept in the out come. BUT! the basic rate went up.

    So as I was watching the scrollies on my TV this weekend, I thought to my self, oh, good old dish network must be trying to raise their rates again.. This is how they slip it in.

    I don't think this is that good of a forgery, the first thing I noticed was a blur on his cheek and collar. That was a red flag that it was a forgery to me. The blur didnt look natural, it looked like it had been done with a blur tool to hide something. Low and behold, it was, it was used to remove the watermark. Geez people. you can do better than that can't you? =)

    Spam Assassin weeds out more than 50%, I run it on my server and I would say I block 90% or better on spam, and in 2 years I have only gotten 2 false positives, and to solve that I added them to my white list. So i don't think 50% is a good number to brag about. (No I didnt read that article).

    I had a trackball that was made for the atari 2600, it worked great as a mouse for geos on the C64.

    Those were the days, things were so much simpler then.

    Dilaup wont go away any time soon, I work for a small ISP who's nitch is the little country towns who can't get DSL or cable because their population make it not worthwhile.

    So I predict dialup will be around for at least another 5 years.
