I don't remember where I read it (Discover or Scientific American?) but there was an article on how to make a container that would be nearly guaranteed not to contaminate it's contents.
It basically had I think an inner box in a vacuum, inside another inner box in air, inside the outer box. And this protected it in case of pressure going on way or the other so that no matter what, things would only of out of the center and not in.
I'm sure like most people I read that they were shooting for getting a person on Mars within three decades and thought that seemed a little unambitious.
But then again, the need to return and examine samples prior to human invasion is necessary.
Of course this made me wonder A) can't they still speed up the entire process, even taking into account this need and B) what's the chance that anything we've sent so far has been less than 100% sterile.
Besides, even if we sent a person up and contaminated the place... how long would it take for that to confuse the matter of whether or not Mars previously had life? Can microbes really spread over an entire planet that quickly?
I'm fine with high income tax if somethings done with it.
In many of those countries the result is less of a divide between rich and poor... most people are distinctly middle class, which is almost the only class. And their government takes care of everyone nicely and provides for its citizens. It's big government without being overbearing and infringing on its citizens liberties. I personally think countries like Denmark are role models for the rest of the world these days.
If I lived in Scandinavia, I wouldn't even consider moving to the USA. Why leave the most modern, liberal, and socially advanced part of the world for a country dominated by conservative christians.
...to do absolutely EVERYTHING they possibly could do in order to make enemies with the open source community. Groundless lawsuits about copyright are one thing, but now they're actually lobbying congress.
I'm amazed -- at how horrible SCO has become and also at the fact that they were actually able to do something at this point to amaze me (I'd thought I'd seen it all by now). What could they do next? They know no bounds.
Actually I think there have been quite a few versions of Blade Runner. There's the original theater released version which I think had a voice-over narrative. Then that got removed. Then there's been a director's cut (and I think a second director's cut).
I (and about 5 other people I go to college with) ordered Dell Axim's when we saw the price at $79.
I was hoping and hoping it would ship before they realized their mistake (and later I was wishing I'd checked overnight delivery instead of standard shipping). Of course... no deal... and the two e-mails I got just referenced that it says on their website that Dell is not responsible for typos.
I was thinking how nice it would be to check e-mail around campus using the built-in wireless.
In 1986 the Dr Pepper company merged with the Seven Up Company to form Dr Pepper/Seven-Up Corporation which was later acquired, in 1995, by Cadbury Schweppes plc. It would become the largest operating division of the non-cola beverages firm, Dr Pepper/Seven Up, Inc.
Doctors seem to do this little game of choice... I cut my finger with an electric hedge trimmer pretty badly and the anesthetic didn't work so well. All he said was "oops, you weren't supposed to feel that." I just had him do the rest of the stitches. Not good.
And to think of that being done down... ugh! *shivers* ugh!:-P
I had a 64K CoCo2 as a kid. (I still have it.) I loved playing those games (Demon Attack, Pooyan, and I think I had a lot of Sesame Street games)... I also had a programming book.
In the mid 90's I felt nostalgic and I bought a 512K CoCo3 and some cartridges from someone on a CoCo newsgroup.
So in terms of damages they're assuming that every file you have has been uploaded to someone else's computer at least 50 times (750/15)?
I have had file-sharing turned off for awhile now, but I remember maybe only 5-10% of the songs I had ever got uploaded, and even then maybe only 2-3 times at the *very* most.
Maybe it's just the music I had. (Lots of bands to be found on Metropolis Records, who I might add are not part of the RIAA, and who, I might add, have gotten a lot of real business from me because of bands I explored through filesharing first.)
Seems high. They always overstate their "damages."

I got the George Lucas joke... just adding a bit of information.

Someone else posted this elsewhere on this story.
I was reading through the documentation and it's pretty good, too.
RPN for TI-89
Does he also suggest that sex would not happen if it weren't advertised? Is that something people need to be persuaded to do?
(I must be really bored... obviously)

I doubt it.
...then SOCAN we!
Wow....
I read that news bit you linked to and I have to say that I really do feel bad about it now.
Poor guy.
"my god.
think of the children."
I deleted it back in June or July I think... though it still says I have "30 days" to undelete it for some reason.
Had enough of it. It's not coming back.
Oh, I don't know... I'm pretty messy.
And besides, that's not legal yet in the USA.
That made me cringe reading it.
:-P

I wonder if any messy women ever get their lives cleaned up by marrying a man.
...that this SCO thing was covered more in popular media (and accurately).
People would take notice if Jay Leno (as much as I hate him) were making jokes about SCO.
"Boxes"? "Sorted"?
This is way more than I organize things. Why's he complaining?
It gets to the point it's impossible to walk across the floor without hearing something plastic cracking under your feet sometimes.
Adam West talking and then suddenly you hear something like Stephen Hawking saying "...beautiful Mount Rose, Minnesota..."
