I know I'd rather have a stylish cell phone that is only a phone (without a camera) and for the carriers to spend more money on building their infrastructure out than making deals with phone manufacturers to get phones that are $500 that can play mp3s, record video, and take pictures. That will never happen now.
...that any company (other than Apple) that names their product iAnything should have 15% iDeducted from their iStock price for being iUncreative. It was catchy when Apple started doing it (if they were even the first), but now its kind of "their thing" and it just sounds, well, stupid when other companies do it.
Kudos to the funny comeback however everything about the human body is needed in order for us to survive except for the appendix it seems. We couldn't have one thing develop without having something else as well, which goes against evolution which implies gradual changes. We need all of our organs and all the capabilities that our cells have to differentiate, multiply, copy dna, etc. is all needed at the same time so gradual changes would not suffice for us to exist based solely on evolution.
In a restaurant you can reasonably limit the number of suspects if you know the card # was stolen while at the restaurant. Unfortunately using a wireless connection allows *anyone* within range to access the data and you don't even have to see them so wireless is still less secure.
If you think they will use MS Access then you don't know the FBI as much as you thought. Not to mention they already use RDBMSes and Access isn't one of them.
No not necessarily. I know of a study started about 2 years ago that was meant to be the glue between multiple databases/platforms but so far the FBI hasn't finalized requirements and the prototype is barely surviving. Does Google work with databases hosted on mainframes? If not then it won't work for what the FBI would need it for.
As a subcontractor I only had to pass a background investigation (I am a US citizen already though so that was a given for me but it may or may not have been a prerequisite). However every 5 years the security clearance is reviewed and I'm told that is when the polygraph is instituted and they ask such general questions as "have you ever lied to anyone?". Of course no one could say no to that but I'm told it's nothing to worry about. I still have 1.5 years before my first 5 year review comes up.
And what is worse is these kinds of actions will make people less likely to donate. They will be wondering "Is my gift really going to help people, or will it be sucked up by greedy people taking advantage of a situation". What can a person do? Give and hope for the best??
What can a person do? They do what the logical thing is to do, which is to only donate money to organizations you know of (Salvation Army/Red Cross). Would you deposit your money in a bank you never heard of before? Use your common sense. And the reason why there are some people who take advantage of the less fortunate is because they don't see the effects of what they do so they don't care. We just have that kind of world nowadays where people don't care about other people.
Well thank you judge tgibbs for your ruling on the ruling. I'm sure the judge will be sure to appease you the next time he makes a ruling in favor of idiocy. There are flaws in evolution as well (if there wasn't it wouldn't be called a theory) but we won't get into those else you wouldn't have a leg to stand on anymore. We'll just let you think your side won due to evolution being so sensible (just like everyone wins the Special Olympics).
But that being said teaching science that there is a force that we cannot measure or prove or disprove is not science.
That is what a theory is (it can not be proven or disproven for all circumstances and can't be measured) and yet the theory of evolution is taught so when you say it that way the theory of ID should also be taught. The fact that God can't be proven scientifically does not matter.
What does Word do? Word processor maybe? How about WordPerfect?
At home Grandma is not going to automagically be born with the knowledge of which application to use to get her polaroids out of her new camera. At the least she would have her grandson do it and he isn't going to be born with the knowledge either. Windows applications may not be totally descriptive of what they do but they at least have something in the name that tips a user off as to what they might do(MS Word). Just on my system I have DVDLabPro, CuteFTP, Winamp, newsrover, powerdvd, opera, sound forge, etc. Out of those only Opera (and maybe winamp) really gives no clue as to what the application does or deals with. There are a lot of off-the-wall program names for Linux but I don't have a system to look at right now to pick out any beyond what has already been mentioned (such as xine and gimp).
Windows XP (Pro version only) and Windows Server 2003 are already on the approved list of operating systems to run by the DOJ/FBI and WinXP is running on thousands of PCs in field offices today.
.....if customers found out that Microsoft Windows = your ISP cuts down your rate, are people more or less likely to buy Windows?
The problem is that people hardly ever buy Windows directly. It comes on 99.99% of PCs sold on the market today. If they want a new PC they will get Windows (for those not smart enough to know better, which is just about everyone who buys their PC in a retail store) Whether this has any effect is hard to say but it would hopefully kickstart more vendors to have Linux preinstalled on new PCs.
It's all about the money. Store owners take the risk of arrest because they want the extra revenue. Congress can make all the laws they want but they can't enforce it everywhere because store owners are unscrupulous (some of them) themselves. If we had better store owners then the laws would actually be helpful as the owners would be more fearful of arrest and do the right thing instead of trying to make the most money possible.
In other words. Parents should be responsable for their kids. So were's the problem again?
Responsibility should not be one-sided. The following isn't a direct analogy but the responsiblity is the same. We don't let car manufacturers do whatever they want with their vehicles. There are certain expectations that the public puts on the manufacturers such as including air bags and other safety features. Sure, people could just drive the actual speed limit but you, being in your car, have no control over how fast someone else is driving in their car. Most people exercise responsibility by driving the speed limit but car manufacturers include airbags and other safety devices because accidents still happen and there are still some idiots on the road who don't show responsibility.
Getting back to video games, a parent can exercise responsiblity on their own child but have no control over what the child sees when he/she go to a friend's house and it is nice to think that the parents of the friend show responsiblity but we all know that doesn't always happen. In cases like that either the game stores need to do something or the game producers need to show responsibility. Luckily this isn't as bad as what is shown on TV as people actually have to go to a store in order to bring the content into their homes where as in the case of TV it comes into the home no matter what and a push of a button allows it to be seen.
You can't call Boxing Day by its name. You have to say Happy Holiday so as to not offend anyone who doesn't like boxing and who doesn't care whether it's Boxing Day or not. So goes the world with political correctness as the top priority.
Only one but it seems you have the same affliction that corporations have in that you aren't willing to call that holiday by its name despite the billions of dollars it generates. There is only one holiday that uses fireworks, only one with a turkey, only one for the new year, and yet we still call those by their proper names. What's wrong with Christmas? Oh I know, it has "Christ" in its name and it's based on the Christian religion.
I would agree with you. Time changes things. I think I could say that I consider it a bad thing that it takes so long for the changes to take place though. The good changes could get here quicker and the bad changes could be noticed faster before it is too late.

an apostrophe was actually used correctly with an acronym. "Large-scale database development projects are part of the FBI's IT expansion as well."
If you think they will use MS Access then you don't know the FBI as much as you thought. Not to mention they already use RDBMSes and Access isn't one of them.

Sounds like the response I'd get from a 10 year old.
So his parents didn't sue the manufacturer for him not being able to distinguish between reality and virtual reality?

Optical media are spelled "discs" and magnetic is "disks". They intentionally made the distinction.

Genius. I guess it's true, the more you swear the dumber you sound/look.
The editors are on vacation during the holidays
There is a holiday at least once a month so exactly when will the editors be back? Never?
