  1. I'm getting confused here.... on Declawing Windows: Impossible? · · Score: 2, Insightful

Last week, I read an article on slashdot about M$ beginning with a anti-unix campaign.
One of their arguments was (IIRC) that Unix was inflexible, not modular, needed an expert to handle it etc.
And now M$ says, windblows isn't modular as well. It would even be unmanagable/unsupportable if they stripped IE and WMP off Windows...
They used to tell different faerie tales....
Only a few years ago, one of M$'s campaigns claimed WinNT to be a better Unix than Unix.
How better ? being less modular and managable than un*x ? So how should I interprete these conflicting stories ?
Oh well, it's just another piece of FUD. Have a nice day.

This is scary to say the least.
next step is to have everybody a transmitter implanted, so we can always be found, even if we don't want to be found...
Lucky us they actually put it on the market as the device it is.
Imagine if they sold that piece of 'spyware' under the name 'ordinary watch'...
a boss being able to say to his/her employee " why are you late, I saw you gettin' up at 07:00 and at 08:00 you were still at home..."
maybe me just being too paranoid, but hey, being paranoid doesn't mean nobody is following you.

    have a nice day

And that way MS-DOS isn't Microsoft Disk Operating System but Microsoft's Dirty Operating System.
First they took out the Quick Bits and kept the dirty bits....

Nethack is the most diverse and complex game I ever played. 10 years ago I started my first game, and after many frustrating hours I suddenly found myself hooked !

I especially like the numerous hints to famous fantasy/sf like terry pratchet's discworld, tolkien, starwars throughout the whole game. a bit of mythology helps too when playing nethack. like it's very handy to realize you shouldn't look upon medusa....

I'm very glad the nethack team decided to release 3.4.0.

    happy hacking

  5. how paranoid should one be ? on Windows XP is Listening · · Score: 1

if PeeCees get shipped with a WinXP version with voice recognition turned on, wouldn't it be awefully easy for organizations like the NSA to use this 'feature' in combination with the so-called 'backdoors' installed in all M$ windows versions from win95 and up, and compromize the privacy of virtually all computer users (as most users use microsoft software). scary to say the least. r. ~ ~ :wq!

But if microsoft keeps altering their api without publishing it in a open way, maybe the folks of the wine project could run away with this. agreed, it might not be 100% compatible with the ms api, but it's open, and when wine is stabilized, the wineapi could become a standard for porting win32 applications to unices. as far as I know, this is a gap in the market which is not covered by microsoft
