I think that it's important to note that science is often misapplied. Polygraph tests are used to sway opinions in court cases, even though they're not admissible as "evidence" because they're completely unreliable.
How much would it suck to have a lawyer tell the jury that you saw yourself kill someone? How stupid are people? (Allow me to enter into evidence: Internet Explorer, truck balls, aspartame, Enzyte)
I agree, but Obama is American of direct African ancestry. I don't see where it would be more appropriate.
It stands for Council Of The Wise. I get your point. But the truth is, it's a term that's fallen out of favor because it's a little ridiculous. As if white people are lacking in color. Or native americans. It's a stupid euphemism.
The NAACP just hasn't changed it because it's the name of their organization: http://uncf.org/
I think that's pretty neat. I just wanted to clarify, though, that I'm not complaining about the definitions of Hispanic and Latino. I think they're valuable, because I speak Spanish, so when the basis of my reference to a people is a common language, it's Hispanic. When the basis of my reference to a people is an ethnicity defined by being a strong indigenous culture subjugated by an empire, I say Latino.
And I made the same point as you about the Romans. It's curious how people think, isn't it?:-)
Maybe not, but what are they supposed to do? Publicly admit their Holy Men to be as sin-full as everybody else, sometimes even more so?
They could refuse to accept a convicted child molestor as a priest, then move him to a remote community where people won't know about him, then when he molests several children in the community and the is confronted by the law, obstruct the investigation, and then when he gets out of prison, move him into another position as a priest in Ireland. In another community. With children in it. http://www.deliverusfromevilthemovie.com/index_flash.php
Just a thought.
I prefer Christianity/Catholisim over Islamism as the leading world religion. A lot.
The violence in the middle east isn't a result of Islam (see, Israel), it's a result of the cultural climate. By the way, there is radical Islam, and there's non-radical Islam, and there's mystical Islam. Same as with Christianity. http://www.jesuscampthemovie.com/
Dude, the problem with the nomenclature "African American" is that not all black people are a)Africans or b)Americans. So calling them black is ok. Negro is out (though it too means black), and "colored people" sounds a little too much like "little people." And calling someone "a colored" seems insulting, as well. Black is directly analogous to white, and is the least presumptive about someone's ethnic heritage, which I think is important.
I grew up in Mexico, and often refer to Hispanics. My girlfriend at the time gave me crap because some group of them (I'm assuming it was The Council of the Wise) decided that Hispanic reminded them of the Spanish conquest, and they preferred Latino. Which I think is ridiculous, because when I say Hispanic, I mean a Spanish-speaker (which excludes Brazilians), and when I say Latino, I mean a Latin American (which excludes Spaniards).
Also, Iranians are caucasians, so calling white people caucasians is stupid. So hey everybody, let's just stop being insulted by things that aren't insulting, and stop bowing to unfounded, ridiculous reactionary pressure. And if you find out that one person prefers Latino over Hispanic, use the word they prefer when referring to them. It's super easy.
As well as a speech he made last week that I cannot find online at the moment. He said 'greatly reduce' at first, then alluded that the US should eliminate them to 'lead the way'.
Are you sure Obama didn't say it like a politician, eg, "Work towards..."?
In any case, we have enough nuclear weapons to cover the entire surface of the world several times over. I think we could start eliminating some of the weapons and actually maintain a reasonable, small, well-maintained stockpile. That would be less likely to be stolen.
This is typical and not too surprising. The nice thing for them is there's no chance of us going to war with either Hillary or Obama in office. They'd have to bomb the capital building... and even then...
This is bullshit. Hillary has been prowar, except when campaigning. The Clinton administration had a couple war efforts. Obama's foreign policy guy is Brzezinski, who isn't specifically anti-war. Only when it's a terrible, terrible idea.
Can we not mod up baseless political bullshit from either side? Thanks.
The key words "MUST", "MUST NOT", "REQUIRED", "SHALL", "SHALL NOT", "SHOULD", "SHOULD NOT", "RECOMMENDED", "MAY", and "OPTIONAL" in this document are to be interpreted as described in RFC 2119 [34].
That still doesn't make it relative. It's absolute, because you can look at something, and tell if it complies. If something doesn't do something that is marked RECOMMENDED, it's still standards-compliant. Just because there are gradations doesn't mean they're not absolutely evaluable gradations.
Now, if you're in a theater, your phone is off, and you're still wearing the earpiece, then yeah, you're a tool.
I've seen people in a meeting with their handsfree device on. That's pretty damn bad. You COULD have it hanging around your neck if you're going to be interacting with people, so they don't think you're a total asshole/crazy.
I'm not saying that on absolute terms, I don't have responsibility, but there's a difference between being responsible for how I treat others, and being responsible for how my mother treats others. Likewise, I am more directly and tangibly responsible for the actions of my mafia (the govt.) than for their mafia.
I can directly affect change in my mafia, whereas most of the change I can affect in the Taliban is by not being bigoted, and doing my best to have my mafia wield its power responsibly.
people are very shortsighted. and the whine and complain. even when they are totally wrong
Yeah, dude. Some of that is called having an opinion that is different from yours. Other instances are called people being wrong. Welcome to the Internet. Check this website. It's neat.
the usa gets plenty of criticism for its actions in the world. much of it deserved. do you think the usa deserves no criticism? of course you don't
The reason why the USA gets an unfair share of criticism in the USA is that the USA and its responsibility is the responsibility of the USA and its citizens. I (and many others) view the morals of my representatives as representative of my morals. It really makes sense, it does.
Not that you don't make valid points. I agree. Just that I'm intrinsically involved in the murder of Iraqis. I'm NOT intrinsically involved in the Taliban shutting down cell phone towers. I talk about things I'm intrinsically involved in significantly more.
if you let slip about the enormous penises of all slashdotters (except the women; they have awe-inspiring badonkadonks), the IT industry will fall apart.
Children don't develop certain reasoning and memorization skills until certain ages, not because they're stupid, but because their brains haven't physically developed to the point where it's possible for them to do it.
In which case, maybe it's ok for the parents to guess the password. I'm all for giving kids more freedom, but if the kid can't make a secure password due to brain development, then maybe the kid should be supervised on the internet.
Also, why not just set up a proxy box that connects to the internet, and have everything routed through there? Cache all the images, and write a script that will tile scaled jpgs and/or gifs. Filter out domain names with 'naughty' (fuck, xxx, milf) words unless you have good credentials. Have a script that counts the times naughty words are served to your child's system, and if it happens frequently, look into it. You don't have to even read what your child is looking at, just see what domains it's coming from. If it's coming from myspace, and it's in some message she's reading, then maybe see if it's a teenage girl pushing her limits by using forbidden words online (ok), or some 20-year old who likes tween-age girls (not ok).
This could end up being a little orwellian, but it's a way to provide real protection for children without having to read everything they write or monitor everything they look for, which is IMO, pretty damn unhealthy.
I actually was just setting up a box at work that I wanted others to have access to (since I had given my 2-weeks notice), and I accidentally left my caps lock key on. Which meant my password ended up being PASSWORD.
Dude, it's the name of the company. Of COURSE it's marketing hype. Should they call their company "Relatively Very Low-Pollution Motors"?
Then, you'll have the engineering geeks getting on your ass about the fact that it's actually an engine, not a motor. So "Relatively Very Low-Pollution Engines"? Thank god we got that straightened out. [/jerk] but I do agree with your point. People should consider this more often. Like pollution-motivated vegetarians who eat goji berries from halfway around the world.
Say we halve what they claim for most practical uses (city driving), you still have 400-500 miles per 8 gallons, or 50mpg. Pretty goddamn good for a 6-passenger vehicle.
The owner of xxxample.com isn't going to drop that domain; he'll just fork over the cash for xxxample.xxx and operate both.... The only way.xxx would accomplish anything is if its use were required by law. Not true, really. You could still HAVE xxxample.com, but have it redirect to the.xxx domain. If you were a considerate pr0nographer. I don't think it HAS to be mandatory, you just have to apply good old social pressure to the pr0n people, and there will be significant compliance.
The world will never be completely safe. The trick to not having a bunch of rabid censors toying with our right to free speech is being considerate enough to not piss off a critical mass of people. And I, personally, kind of like the right to view pr0n.

Now, you tell me what the N stands for.
Sorry, the guy was talking about black people as a whole, not Barack Obama. I would otherwise agree with you.

Yeah, check out this movie. It's pretty disturbing. And very condemning of the Catholic Church.

Close enough for the popular opnion.
