Screw that, let's do this with EVERYTHING! Power lines, cable lines, satellites, telephones, TV signals, indoor plumbing, drywall, sunlight, moonlight, train tracks, cars, pavement, toilet paper, non-organic produce, organic produce, rocks, streetlights, internets, other people, cats (especially CATS!), water, shoes...
Maybe if we try hard enough, we can push these weak minded fools into self-extinction, or at least exile somewhere so remote I don't have to hear about it anymore.
"And speaking of the USA, you do realize that Project Echelon and similar efforts have been busily tapping into communications in the Land of the Free for longer than there was a Skype?"
From what I've read the main "new" idea from this paper was that dogs became successful and began to thrive when they were isolated from areas with wolf populations, and thus not allowed to interbreed with wolves. IIRC this happened (according to the paper) when populations moved with humans south of the Yangtze River, isolating them from wolf populations they originated from. These dogs were, therefore (again according to TFA) the origin for the species we have today.
Signal boosters are devices that can help cell phone users improve their coverage in areas where they do not get a good signal. For example, signal boosters can be placed in homes or cars to provide increased signal strength for cell phones, which may let the user complete a call in areas where they previously couldn’t. When these devices are properly installed, they can help consumers, wireless service providers, and public safety first responders by extending cell phone coverage to areas that would otherwise have weak signals such as tunnels, subways, inside buildings, and in rural areas.
Although signal boosters can improve cell phone coverage, malfunctioning, poorly designed, or improperly installed signal boosters can interfere with wireless networks and cause interference to a range of calls, including emergency and 911 calls.
I already have a signal booster; do I need to do anything?
If a wireless provider or the FCC asks you to turn off your signal booster because it is causing interference to a wireless network, you must turn off your booster and leave it off until the interference problem can be resolved. When the new rules go into effect, you will be able to purchase a booster with additional safeguards that protect wireless networks from interference.
There is an open source version of SPSS called PSPP. It is not nearly robust enough to replace SPSS in most cases where buying SPSS makes sense, but for small projects it works fine.
Turbo Pascal was also available for the Mac, although it was... rough might be the right word. I remember using it in high school. Many errors (divide by zero was one I remember well) would bomb the system. You learned to save before running your code pretty fast. I can't imagine writing something this complex in it without throwing a few machines across the room along the way.
Might be why no one has bought it yet. How many terrorists use four-square for check-ins (something called out by the article when talking about tracking) or social media at all? I guess the really dumb ones but still...
Ugh! WHY is this on/. in 2013?? This is ancient news, and probably the oldest and still one of the most reliable ways to troll a geek forum in existence.
This argument, did not, as the summary implies, begin with either Microsoft or a marketing department. This is an old argument originating between CS and EE folks and dates back to the beginning of the modern computer era. Put one or more of each in a room, bring the topic up, then sit back and enjoy. I did this several years ago with some long time friends of mine and it went on for over an hour.
Think about it. It's a system with virtually no security that processes requests blindly. Seems ripe for some evil miscreant to turn a spam botnet on it, flooding sites with millions of bogus but legit looking DMCA notices. Maybe even triggering a "shit finally hits the fan" moment for the DMCA law.
Could be.... interesting. Not that I'm suggesting anyone actually do it, of course. That would be...wrong.
Think of it like building a chain restaurant. You don't grab a blueprint of a building and run off and "poof", you have a fully functioning business. There is a whole process that surrounds it. Find a location, get permits, contract out the work, hire staff, advertise, etc. With a chain, the process is fairly standardized each time, with some minor (hopefully, at least at the individual level) variations.
It's kind of the same with an organism. The DNA isn't so much the blueprint, it's the entire project plan. Instructions for little steps that accumulate and build until you've gone from a single cell (for example) to a fully functional individual organism. In this case, instead of the building blocks being wood, concrete, metal, hammers, builders, staff, cheese sticks, bananas, advertisements, etc, they are all proteins, each with an individual function within the process.
They are not very heavy. They could still damage a car's finish, but would not break a windshield or injure anyone. Hopefully they used brass catchers on the weapons to prevent any issues.
The water is to clear the tube. The tube part is a standard feeding tube. The "invention" here is the pump to move stuff out of instead of into the stomach. Feeding tubes need to be flushed with water after each use. This would hold true for using it in "reverse" like we are talking about here.
Do you really believe that people who are willing to bend on gun control due to this tragedy won't jump on regulating violence in media?! Really? Do you even think there are more people who would care about that issue than would care about gun control measures? Most people wouldn't even look at it as a first amendment issue.
You think that politicians will make the same distinction you are? They will not. They will pass knee-jerk measures to address "the problem" and prove to their constituents that they "did something". None of these will do anything to solve the problem but by the time anyone figures that out, everyone will have long forgotten about Sandyhook anyway (we have a very short memory these days, thank the 24 hour news cycle for that one).
You might get your wish. Guns are not the only thing there are rumblings on. They want hearings on violence in media (TV/Film/Video Games) as well. Exactly how much freedom are you willing to surrender?

So we're all just cattle to our subtle microbial overlords? Interesting. I kinda like that.

It's going to ding my car, damage my walls, break a window, and knock over a lamp before it assassinates me in my home now?
I don't see any end in sight. I figure in two or three years we'll see people walking around with 27" phones on their shoulders.

So what I hear you saying is that banning violent video games will reduce gun violence. Interesting theory you have there.
It's a 2006 video from Mexico.

So what would be a better solution?

Or pick one so popular that it's impossible to pick you out of all of the other John Smiths on the net.

According to TFA they are talking about individuals.

So it was written by a tween? From 1989?
