Awesome.--Reqtools (fully implemented) would answer almost every issue folks complain are complaining about in this whole thread.
And it's GTK based to boot, so this even manages to be on topic.
Drag-n-drop from your desktop, it cds, or enters item as selected. Hit LMB, reverts to / (probably configurable) Type in dir, cds there... Very nice, it was reqtools I missed...
Now we just need a way to "drop" it into an existing system ala the Amiga way (all function calls, even sytyem/rom functions were changable on-the-fly)
AMD handed Intel their head for the first time here, and Intel "suddenly" has a comparable chip in the works, that will run at 10 Ghz, use very low power, be recyclable, do dishes, SOMEDAY.
"No, Wait, Don't buy that Opteron!!! Well have something better Real Soon Now"
I would bet a paycheck that heads rolled at Intel when the Opteron shipped and they didn't have anything close to production...
The "good" gamer ready---even nominally---ones take an athlon---Get a 2500+ and underclock it (before week 39) and it will run cool.
The nice new shuttle has an NForce2 MB, dual vid out, (GF440 mx class??) and an unused AGP slot--- Tiny, beautifully built machine, longing to be a killer MythTV/Freevo box as is, or a nice gamer box adding a vid card ($ to taste)
I drooled on one Sunday. Having 4 local Frys is a bad, bad thing...
Ghost has issues just like anything else... I have had better luck with parted v ghost for quite some time, and then you run (another program) (Been a month or so since I had to do it...) to finish the resize.
dds better use is for recovery/forensics, to make a backup copy of a read-only fs, so one can attempt recovery on the copy, v an original hosed up disk.
Trying to fix a mounted volume (ala windows) is a bad idea if you ever hope to see data off a damaged volume...
You are right, you get what you pay for---Unless you buy a Dell/Gateway or something.
If you make an educated purchase list based upon several of the great HW sites out there, wou can have a killer machine for $600, using all name-brand, respectable hardware that will last for years.
Modern hardware (usually) just works.
Or you can get that $1000>$3500 Dell/Gateway, which will be full of the lowest common denominator, bottom of the barrel hardware, even if you get the topline machine.
You will not find a std retail MB in these machines, no Abit, Asus--- You will get a "custom" MB made for Dell in one of those sweatshops, and pay 2-3x more for low performing junk most likely.
If you are lucky, you'll be able to swap it out and at least reuse the $20 case, and maybe the power supply.
More $$ != more quality, just sometimes.
Consumer electronics is a LITTLE better, but only to a point.
I just checked your posts, and you seem to make great ones--
You were an ISP tech throttling down P2P apps in the first...Now a Lawyer? Interesting career move. In one day...Of course you plagarized the first, and this one looks sort of familiar as well.
I assume you aren't still advertizing "unlimited (SOME SPEED UP/DOWN) any longer?
It would be deceptive advertizing, and good grounds for a lawsuit from any customer, or all...
P2P has many non-copyright infringing uses, and don't count on the RIAA to win anything easily, if at all. Their paid-for lawmakers will will only get them so far before the cycle reverses.
Once they have gotten this working, and assuming there is a commercial need for these cycles that exceeds the cost in bandwith, a site could do as others have suggested, and require you to run this app (ala netzero etc) in order to acess content on the site.
Only in Seattle, where MS is a good neighbor, would any "journalist" say this is "apparent showdown over pricing"
Someone has not been paying attention, perhaps willfully so, apparently.
It's over features that Israel offered to PAY for, and MS blew them off for years.
It's about lack of customer support, and MS arrogance... That OOffice just happens to be a 95+% replacement for Word (today), and happens to be Free in both senses of the word, is just a bonus.
Space heaters!
(Nononononono, I'm an AMD fan, but I couldn't resist)

One of the things I miss...
Are you trolling or do you have a link to something specific?
They did/do? make vacuum tubes on ICs.
Very rad hard, low voltage, very reliable.
If the gaps are small enough so there is no room for a gas molecules, its a vacuum, right?
To a very large extent, what you just asked for is already reality.
The only weak point is games... The Wine ports (DON'T call them rip-off, they aren't) that support games well are the only thing missing.
95% of Joe Sixpacks could boot a Knoppix disc today and be done with it.
Also true for 90% of offices once Knoppix updates to OO 1.1+.
(Assuming they could figure out how to boot off a CD---There has to be SOME minimal entry threshold;-)
"The Reg" was the first place I heard that name---
Don't know if they came up with it, but they popularized it well.
More or less.

Mod this up please, out of points.
Amazing: Beowulf Cluster post not a troll!
The guy makes a good point, but Mini-Itx anything costs 2-3x more than its std equivalent.

Have they ever ported say... Any other arch to the crusoe?
I realize its a return on investment sort of thing, but it would be cool to have say an instant PPC board for the developer types.

Most of the "Name Brand" parts are made in Taiwan...
Not mainland China. If you care about such things, take note.
Last time I checked, Taiwan did pretty good about treating thier workers OK, at least relatively speaking. (Sweatshop is a relative term)
They are also our allies in a major way, last time I checked anyhow...

Great, you just described a source rpm, and very likely an deb source file.
BTW, its been like that... forever (for some sets of "forever")
(Note--This does NOT dis Patrick, quite the opposite, everyone else copied a good idea into their implementations)
Also, someone is plagarizing your posts, have seen a couple of dupes.
(Assuming YOU are a lawyer)
That will make MY day.
I will check out the other bands on your list I don't know...
Thanks!
He plagarized another article yesterday form somebody, click on his name to check history,
I just checked your posts, and you seem to make great ones--

Beats pop up ads, anyway.
Like KnoppMyth?
Knoppix with MythTV preconfigured...
Installable, or will boot from CD as a frontend given a network Myth setup.

We could all show our appreciation for his fine "work".
Modern theories discard "dino" or even plant sources for the oil/gas we drill for.
It's apparently from the formation of the earth.
Apparently it's not really even controversial anymore among geologists.
(Google for it)
