I have three networks at home all with different goals. They are production, work and testing.
My work network is nothing but 2 jacks setup and segmented from everything else. When I bring my work laptop home it goes into that. I have a VPN going back to work so I can still check mail and move files where ever I am.
Production consists of three PC's and 1 Xbox. A 1Tb (raw) file server. Movies, Back ups of xbox games etc.. A PC for the wife and my XP/Debian box. I also have a nice HP laser printer and cheap colour inkjet.
Then I have testing. If I want to break stuff this is where I do it. currently it has, a cisco 3640, cisco 2950, some 1200 AP's, an old sparc box, 2 win 2k3 servers that are ghosted every month or so, and some old workstations, oh also a G4 800. This network is off most of the time.
The one thing I have noticed is that as you start doing more complex things at work you no longer want 60 boxen doing crazy things. I want some reliable systems with good uptime and some hardware to experiment and trash. However, 6 years ago I had a lot more stuff that was on all the time and never used.
Just like how routers that have weighting are always screwing up where packets go. Yes, I know we lose a few, but that is because packets are cheep. In reality we have plenty of good routing protocols out there already.
Place I did consulting for still user R14 with one 2000 box. Why? The draftsman hate new autocad and all recoidled in horror when they saw 2000. The only reason we even had a Acad 2000 box was to open drawings from others and save as r14 or to take r14 drawing that were used internaly and convert them to 2000 for final checkoff.
Draw a line from HSBC to UB south. Fiber, losts of fiber. Another line to canada. Also CitiCorp had a pretty big NAP there as well as UB north. There is lots of fiber and it in run on a few major routes allowing easy connection as compared to a lot of places where the fibre is run willy-nilly.
I grew up in buffalo and worked there untill I was 25. I have worked in both Tech support and internal IT and I really hope that you use the remaining 6 months pay, save up, and move out! I started out with client logic, moved to adelphia and ended up running an entire hell desk for localnet before I left. Always struggling, no extra money, always getting greif from mgmt. and stuck in an old novell town. Anyways to make a long story short, I left LecalNet moved to seattle and am now doing the stuff I love, Cisco security and firewall testing. The market in buffalo is so saturated I doubt you will find a job. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Leave. Now.
My god, I hate it when HP,MS or whomever does this. Now the GPL goes this way, UGH. It's not the fact that they are changing the GPL, that's bad enough but the fact they are retroactivly changing is what makes it so bad. This is the kind of shit the the bad boys do. I hope this idea goes no where or you can see any the profesional devs go elsewhere really quickly.
While not perfect results, a 50% decrease in the number of users giving away their password is a victory. Hopefully in a few years it will be down to 10%.
Correct. I was talking more about the "I want to go out with you" not parental interaction. I have an eight year old son who I talk to every day. We watch discovery channel and have dinner conversations.
I am assuming that you do not have any children - Actualy I have an eight year old son. Plus my 12 year old neice was receintly caught having sex with her gymnastics (sp?) instructor.
what if he did and it was YOUR daughter?
Best the sh*t out of him, which I offered to do to the mf who touched my neice. Heck I offered to fly from seattle to flordia just for the joy of doing it myself. However I dont think that someone's life should be spend in jail because they did something very stupid once (or were caught once). They can still be members of society. Watch them, dont trust them at all but allow them to rebuild their life. I get they sex offender flyers from school every once in while. Most of these people were convicted of having underage sex with a 15 yearold when they were 19. Was it sleasy? Yes. Was it bad? Yes. Should they spend 10 years in prison? no.
It seems that sex offenders are the least liked members of society, which I have no problem with. However I do have a problem when the punishment is out of range of the crime. I dont like the idea of spending 30k a year to house them either.
I just follow the seinfeld rule. ({your age}/2)+7= min age to be with someone.
As you get older you will realize that a 30 year old guy can not talk to a 16 year old. They are dumb! when I was 16 I did not think so but age changes interests and priorties. It is slow but it happens. Attractivness is not just physical but mental (in both meanings).
Not really.. As tempting as it is to belive in the lock them away forever mode I dont think it is a good approach. This guy got 30 years probation. He is being watched, in all likleyhood he will not reoffend. He claims to feel remourseful. He shows all the the signs that you would want to be in someone who came out of the system. I am more of the theory that we need more cops catching criminals and much lighter jail time.
I had a ssid for a while of A205_$key. My Apartment was A205 and the $key was my WEP key. I did have my wireless on a seperate VLAN and VPN'd back if I wanted to check something on the wired VLAN. I did not care if someone used my wireless as I had most traffic ACL'd off. All you had was recieveing mail, web, ssh and telnet open for public use.
Wow no shit. I will read it and perhaps educate myself. 1 point and 1 question then.
Since half of wikopedia is inaccurate I did not assume that that was any different. People citing wikopedia is NOT an example of citing a reliable source for their data.
Question/ How inaccurate is my defination and the correct one in day to day use? I have been dealing with CLECs, ILECs, and RBOCs for three years now I should know better. Are there any cases (other that in the middle of nowhere) where there is no ILEC?
I was not going to respond to this but you keep getting modded up... An ILEC is an Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier. Incumbent is the important word here. They own the wire. That's it end of story. CLEC is someone who does not own the wire but leases it from the ILEC and handles billing, cust. service, etc..
Exactly, I purchased NHL 2005 this year. Went to install it and it would not play due to copy protection (did not like cloneCD or Alochol). I went to take it back to ?gamestop?. I was promptly told that by opening the package I forfeted my right to return it. Called EA and told them I did not agree to the EULA. They told me to go to the purchasing point and return. GameStop then to me to call EA who told me to call gamestop, who told me to call EA... I finaly sold it on fleabay for 20 bucks.
Actualy what I do is use RunasP. It allows me to run the app as administrator while the user is still a regular user. It still has problems but works fairly well.
Exactly, Caylx Point is the same sort of "I must run as admin" App. This is a program that is basicly nothing more than a database for mortgage companies. It has about a 66% market share. It must be run as admin, power user is not good enough to run it's activeX scripts. Also IE (only IE works) must have it's security settings changed to lower levels.
Two quick points, why the fsck does any app need to run as administrator use only IE and have low security levels. The other being, do you know who the worst people to use the internet are? PHB's Mortgage officers are nothing more that aspiring PHB's. They play online poker, disable AV to run anna_kornakova_cans.scr, and go to every pr0n site in the world. Amazing...

Just dont use that abortiong of hardware called a PIX. A bigger peice of shit I have not seen in a while.

Speakeasy is planning on publicly beta testing WiMax in Seattle in the next quarter.
Let me guess.. you have comcast. change your dns server to manual setup.

Always memorize 1 stable Name server. I still remeber locanet's

Assuming at weighs about the same as gold, which it does. About 20 kilo's.
Unless you are parinoid like me and have a list of allowed processes that are pushed down via GPO from AD.

Sort of..
You sit around and complain that the game won't work on a computer that has alochol 120 or clone CD installed. Very Realistic..
Before you know it canada will be home to the most habitable land, and you can smoke pot. Wahoo!!
