Years ago I was in Seattle and had a greater Washington mailing address and Area code. I was getting no responses. After that I changed to a 206 cell and gave a friends mailing address off Cap Hill. It made a huge difference. Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal
No it says do not _covet_ thy neighbours wife. There is noting about not having having her or him in a rollicking good time. The problem with coveting is jealousy, if you remove that part you can have healthy relationships. It is not like there was a shortage of orgies in the biblical times.
1) zip ties are fine in small (logical!) bunches of 4-8 depending on your switch. Velcro the rest. 2) leave 100% for growth. Cable is cheap. Bigger holes are cheap. 3) Label everything. Colour codes are very helpful as well as a peice of paper on each end of every cable. SAN, Telco, WAN, LAN, Servers, erc.. all should be coulour coded. so far as labels (group)-(cable) i.e. 3-2 == group/bundle 3, cable 2 4) dont let anyone you dont trust to touch it. it sounds like an asshole thing to do but it will save your ass 5) set aside 4 hours of every quarter to keep up with the mess that it will become even still. 6) service loops. leave 2-3 feet neatly coiled for movement. 7) did I mention labels? LABEL EVERYTHING!
Dont forget to burn them with email. If someone wants you do do something that is a bad idea make sure they communicate that to you via email that you keep. That way went the hard questions come up your position is known and documented.
The same reason IT has a shortage. We get no respect, only decient pay, and have some paperpushing motherfsker over us all the time. I see it day in and day out. Sales weenie drives the new car, has good house and is making 80k a year for going to meetings, looking at reports, and doing market/sales speak. Meanwhile the people who are actual _doing_ the work get shit on, are making 2/3 thirds that and are stuck to their desk.
I reciently had to get sign off for a tech conference. I showed how it would increase my productivity. Declined. I went back the same day, the same damn day, and spun it as making contacts and strengthing relationships and they threw money at me. Insisted I stay at a $200/night hotel when all I wanted was a rack for $60 or so.
If not for the fact that I enjoy IT I would be out doing the same. But I cant sell my soul and look at myself in the mirror. It appears the way this whole country is heading (US) Everyone skimming 5% off the top but not actualy doing anything. Bitter? Oh hell yea. Justified? You better belive it.
I know you are trying to be funny but apparently I am part of that demographic. I either download/buy MP3's/Ogg/Acc or if I want a special order or tangable product I go the the record store and order vinyl. Sure I wait two weeks but I get a nice product that I can keep. Mind you I only touch the vinyl once to rip it to mp3.
I should have been more clear. I am aware that Current is always been sid. IIRC there was a short period where I could not find a 6 series. It was around 4.10 and 5.0 were both coming out. I was trying to draw attention to that fact. Perhaps I should get more sleep before posting.
I have used Debian since 2000 or so and have slowly been moving boxes to freebsd for the last 6 months or so. It was everything I loved in Debian, files are put in sane places, stable, not bleeding edge but current enough. It also had a good sized community that in a lot of way reminds me of debian. And going to your question it had a package management system that actualy works. Since freeBSD had come out with the 6-current series it even had a "Sid".
Aint that the truth. About two week ago our IT dept was bullshitting for about half an hour. Our less than qualified SMS admin was talking about how he was bucking fow a raise as he just got his MCSE for 2003. This started a thread about who had what certs. My time came around and I replied "oh I have a cisco cert and some Red Hat crap" to which a cow-orker asked if I had any M$ cert's. My response "yes my MCSE but I dont admit to it, and dont ever tell managment because I will be responsible for the windows boxes"
Nice project but.. at $15 for a 50gb drive 250gb raw will cost you $75. Add in shipping and I bet you are at $100+. I can get a seagate Sata 250Gb from Newegg for 120. I would rather have three of those RAID 5'd for 500Gb useable that some big, loud, hot, power hungry, loud drive array.
I work in a 11 man IT shop and most people are in a niche. IT is mostly windows with a bit of HP-UX and AIX thrown in. I am one of two people who have cross platform skills. When our HP-UX admin got fired I took over the hardware and OS (not application) duties on that. Nothing much to learn other than HP-UX is not BSD. I got a 6k raise. When we needed an actual cisco guy instead of contractors and freely avalible configs they called on me. I recieved a 5k raise. I also picked up another 4k at my yearly review.
So now I am Jr. Windows Admin/Network Admin/HP-UX admin making good money and more importantly enjoying what I do. Most importantly for the company I can talk Windows, network and big iron. I get a view of the whole IS infrastructure and have valuable input. I am also very hard to replace as they would need two or three people to do what I do.
Quick story; friend of mine went out to a bar, met some girl and had sex with her. Turns out she was 16, god only know how a 16 year old got into a bar where everyone is 21 or over. Anyways, he got charged with rape and spend over 10k getting out of the charges.
The company I work for. http://magnoliaav.com/ sells these and I had a change to demo them for use on our network. We only used three zone but they were dead simple and worked great. If you can afford them (I can't) you will love it. Before I hear the cries of "astroturfing, astroturfing!" I did not submit the article.
I am not sure if you were trying to be funny or not but outlook 2003 with exchange 2003 is IMHO the best calendar out there. Shareing appointments, booking recources (room, phones, server time, etc..) I use OSS as much as I can. I am up to 20% OSS in the server room in fact. However, for desktop scheduling nothing is better and I have pretty much quit looking at options for the last year unless I hear of something by word of mouth.
Exactly. For the longest time I thought we should ban firearms "for the children". Then some kind soul pulled me aside and gave me a version of your post. It took about two weeks before I converted.
Look I feel for the publishers but why is it google's problem if it threatens their businuess model. If that was the case we would still have horse and buggy because henery ford was threating their model. Adapt or Die.

Forget Karma, this is natural repercussions of actions.
So it is, so someone please mod me into oblivion.

When Fujitsu make those crappy drives about we calle d them Fu-shit-u. If you say it fast enough no one even notices.

I agree I have a t42, and when I made the from debian to freebsd the only problem I had was getting my ipw2200 to work.

Here I fixed it for you.

Wow first post out and already Facist is being used. Not that I disagre but.. Wow!
