Good heavens! Oh my, a maker of anti-virus software for the most virus ridden system in the world claims OSS is insecure? Wow, the shenanigans couldn't be anymore obvious. Of course it's more insecure and it's in his best interest to say so. That's business folks! As always, follow the money. Trend Micro has been in bed with MSFT for a LONG time.
When I worked for the federal government we had the option to work four 10 hours days and then got to take Friday off. It was pretty sweet especially if you could go down to your car and take a brief power nap during lunch.
You'll note that the story says "Sponsored by In-House SEO Exchange@SMX West". A quick visit to that site shows that Bing is a Premier sponsor of SMX West.
Of course Bing! is better than Google. Shenanigans! Or at the very least, suspect.
Apple is a publicly traded company and as such here's what's important
to them.....
Making money for their stockholders.
That means sucking you into a proprietary app system. That means sweatshops for iPods and doing things like heading down the
dangerous path of closing off the Darwin source for development so that OSS geeks can't find a way to make OS X work on commodity boxes.
Apple is going to do what is best in their corporate interest.
Surprised? Don't be. It's business
that your only obligation is to make a profit. That being said, GO BIG PJ !!!! If anything you have gained massive respect from the open source community.
Skype and eBay! OMG OMG OMG!!!!! People are generally lazy and it's easier to just call someone using their cell phone.
I give it 3 months until they break up. (unlike)
Anything not spelled out in the Constitution as a federal government power is a power belonging to the states... period!
I think history has shown that a given political party only believes in "States Rights" when they aren't the party in power.
Anyone wanna revisit why eBay bought 'em in the first place? Did ya just wanna say WTF? Cisco is probably a good fit though. I just hope my home service still works as needed. I bought a GE router with the Skype software in it, bought a SkypeIn number and haven't paid Verizon a bill in 2 years.
Google, as a publicly traded company, only has one obligation: To make a profit for shareholders
Few companies set out to do bad deeds but most won't rule them out. Google was supposed to be different. Regarding "Don't be evil"(tm), CEO Eric Schmidt recently clarified the policy saying that it was simply meant as a conversation starter.

"Do no evil"? They should change their motto to "We do less evil than everyone else"
If Vonage's stock performance is any indicator, I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting to buy shares. Literally Vonage has done almost nothing but drop since it's IPO and they actually have monthly revenues.
If anything social engineering is THE weakest link in the security chain. Let the geeks handle the hardware security but people really and truly need to keep having it pounded into them that they always need to be vigilant and to recognize these attempts.
As someone who got targeted by ASCAP for merely having links on my website to radio stations (story is here on slashdot), I hope that they're beaten senseless by EFF, etc. These are the same people who strongarmed the girl scouts into paying royalties for songs they sang around the campfire. Yes, it's true.
If, six months after you bought your house, the housing downturn happens then yes, you are screwed that you had to wait an additional six months to try and unload it when no one will buy. I managed to sell my house in upstate NY within a week after listing it literally RIGHT before the downturn (very early 2008). Do I care about the new owner? No, nor should I. It's business, and whether he's happy or sad about his purchase is no concern of mine nor do I care.
Lack of common sense regulations by the SEC is what led us to the brink of economic collapse.
There fixed that for you.
The free market is fine. Always has been. However the game needs referees and that's what was missing. The SEC failed miserably. It has happened many times in the past, it will happen anytime something can be securitized. That's Wall Street's job.
It's also good news for Microhoo. Google, as a publicly traded company, only has the obligation to make a profit for shareholders regardless of their "Do no evil" hooey which, let's face it, once you're publicly traded becomes more of a guideline than a rule. Really, Google wants to increase their market share just like anyone else.
I seriously doubt that they will pull out of China and are just sabre rattling although sabre rattling with the Chinese government is a losing proposition. Microhoo and Baidu should be thanking Google if they indeed pull out but I highly doubt they will. They could always change their motto to "we do less evil than everyone else", then they could stay. It's a more realistic motto anyway.
MySpace? Who cares? You should be concerned about.

Facebook. Obviously all that matters in any of these enterprises is that the owners make money. Facebook is hard charging and building pretty solid for the inevitable day, in the very near future is going to come when..
1. Facebook is bought by someone with DEEP pockets
2. The said purchasers looks to make money from all that data that has been amassed.
MySpace is Sunday School by comparison.

Wow the winter went by so quick.
If there is one thing I have learned it's this, never trust "future me". Doesn't matter whether it's billionaires, congress or myself.
So when a libertarian's house is on fire and the firefighters show up, do they say "No, that's ok, I'm a libertarian."?
Supply side economics.

DES? NSA owns the patent on that one. Better use something else.

Commodore has sushi and sold it as fish, sadly. The Amiga demos always kicked ass even if you weren't doing X.
