I think you underestimate the varied tastes of those in the etree community. Take a look at this list of performers starting with the letter D traded and owned by members of the etree community. You will likely discover that that tapers and traders come from all walks.....

And don't forget to put the URL of your band in your sig line and post all over slashdot!

How much I dispise Real Player and the general quality of realplayer downloads. I looked at one commercial and thought "Gawd, that's awful." I tried another and decided it wasn't worth my time. If you are going to do something, why not doing something that will make you proud? This would be a really cool site if the vids were worth watching. I was a teenager through most of the 80s and these games and ads really would have brought back memories.

I find that the most important factor of my XPpro Vaio laptop/Taurus wagon combination is whether or not the wireless adapter is sitting horizontal on the seat or held up closer to window level. On the seat, I pick up a few spots from the frontage road at 45 - 50mph. With it held up, I get lots of hits a 65 - 75 mph from the elevated highway. Hold the adapter vertically seems to improve performance. Guess the frame acts as a dampening field.

Yes, but I think the original poster would also like to know how. I have not yet gone beyond WEP with my linksys setup, and would also like to see instructions on how to designate allowable MAC addresses. I know, a google search should produce the instructions, but this seems like it would be good info for many in the slashdot crowd.

I downloaded the audio version of Stephen King's book "Talisman" from usenet in mp3 format last week. I was at Half-Price Books on Sunday, and though I already had all the downloaded files, I bought the the mp3 version of the book because the price was only $18. If the record companies could see this they might understand. I would never shell out $49.95 for lossy mp3 files, but would pay $18. Because the used market is the only place one will find this type of pricing, the distributors will not see these sales, but if they lowered their prices, I would not jack with the trust issues of usenet.

  25. potential? on Faith Returns to Buffy · · Score: 3, Interesting

They have to do something. Since the move to UPN, something has been different. Buffy has gone the way of most sitcoms in that unless you have seen 3 of the 5 most recent episodes, the storyline is lost. Buffy used have stand alone episodes - each was fun, "light", and had both a beginning and an end. Lately, ever since Glorificus, it has been impossible to watch episodes out of order. The Buffy character seems to have been written into a corner, and even the introduction of the 3 arch nemisises (this is the slashdot tie-in) and their subsequent disposal has not been able break the cyclic decline into soap operadom. Maybe, if Faith kills everyone and becomes the dark slayer, we can return to the stand alone episodes of the early days and leave behind political statments and ratings whoring of the lesbian duo. I just wish they would do another musical episode. Once More, With Feeling is my favorite by far. My $.02 - and remember, an opinion is never worth more than you paid for it.
