bear in mind that you're not likely to screw anything up TOO badly while cleaning your own bathroom, but getting a doing a DIY brake job badly can have interesting and exciting consequences.
the segway failed because it was released at $5k--WAY to expensive to be a cool toy. If they manage to get the price down, the segway may yet manage to take over the world.
European imperialism didn't have anything to do with the near extinction of the Cherokee, the Seminole, the Lakota, or any of the numerous other tribes in the great plains. At a stretch, you might be able to blame the dispossession of the tribes on the eastern seabord on the Europeans, but the bulk of it is pure American.
On the other hand, what percentage of "Alice"'s office data bases ever get anywhere close to getting scaled up to the whole enterprise? In most cases, I'd guess that the number is pretty darn small, tending toward zero.
There's a middle ground to be had here--it isn't necessary or appropriate to bring in the IT pros everytime "Alice" touches here keyboard.
not to mention the fact that NONE of the super-voting shares are being sold. Even buying a majority of the common stock would not allow the buyer to control the company.
"what most of us did when we were his age" was the functional equivalent of playing with matches
what he did was play with matches, burn down the building, and get caught at it.
If he only gets 18 months he's getting off lucky
Ford may eventually get the hybrid thing right, but it's a pretty safe truism in the automotive business that one should never buy the first model year of anything.
It took Toyota 3 or 4 years to get the Prius right. Even with the advantage of being able to avoid some of Toyota's mistakes, Ford's got a tough road ahead in the hybrid business. You've got to be pretty brave to be buying the first ones off the production line
People don't go to college to major in football, typically.
hmmm... don't get out much do you?
A large percentage of the guys playing division one football went to college for precisely that major... the "phys ed" degree is a often a figleaf at best
No comments on the procedure itself--other than to say that I have a couple friends that have had it done, and they're pretty happy. Personally, I'm moderately nearsighted, and am holding on to my glasses
If you decide to do it though, a possible way to hold onto a bigger chunk of the pile of cash-- here in the northeast, there's a fairly regular train of people up to Montreal and Quebec. The going rate for the surgery up there is somewhat under half of what it is here in the state... the general plan is:
leave US wearing glasses on Thursday
get new eyeballs on Friday
spend weekend in deluxe hotel of your choice
get followup exam monday morning
come back thru customs without glasses.
Followup care by your local guy;
couple thousand dollars extra in your pocket.
all the usual caveats about not having it done in an alley by a guy with a coat hanger apply....
Funny? huh?
how about lame, trite, repetitous, or sophmoric?

ever heard of traction control??
well, nice to know that at least I have company over here in the dunce's corner
other than the fact that nobody's flown one yet, nothing
Not to accept your premise, but you may want to work on your math skills...
that should be:
If A*B*CX then....
multiply the probability times the cost... don't add it

were you asleep thru the entire dot-bomb??
surely the N-gage is less of a blunder than, say, the TimeWarner-AOL merger???
when did the recording industry start using stuntmen???
Some recordings are so bad that they're painful to listen to--perhaps they use stuntmen instead of A&R guys?
If you're going to spout nonsense about job loss, at least get the acronym right--MPAA is the one you're after
is "already done", a.k.a "in the past" quickly enough for you?
accomplish more in 2 hours than the next guy does all day, and then spend the rest of the day posting to /.
poof--instant normalization of productivity

you might want to consider a slightly broader historical context.
the Mexicans, and the American indians would disagree that "never in our history" has the US been in the mood for domination....

It's a fireman's JOB to put out fires-- that doesn't make the arsonist any less guilty.

you may want to reconsider--"delete all contact numbers", for instance, is a pretty standard phone feature.
if the US wants to keep having the standard of living its got today, 5% isn't going to cut it.

No, it's not possible to develop a 60 mpg Hummer--at least not with anything even vaguely resembling today's technology.
The Hummer just weighs too much, and the aerodynamics are ghastly.
With ~current technology, you'd be lucky to break 20 mpg on the Hummer platform

OK, so who's the stupid one here? The user that called you, or you, for actually fixing the silly thing???
