Actually roads are paid for by use taxes (gas, registration, etc.), entirely, which means they pay for themselves. Surplus from those use taxes tend to be revenue sources for some states. Roads, essentially, pay for themselves. I will admit there are the usual boondogles (ie Big Dig). Same with the airline infrastructure. Rail, however, is a net money loser, and you would never be able to charge enough in fees to make it pay for itself. There isn't a single high-speed rail system in the world that doesn't charge a tax on something else (such as fuel for cars) to subsidize. Many studies show that the most economical/carbon friendly form of transportation is the bus. High-speed rail is nice for the convenience but it will never break even, $ wise, or carbon wise.
The US military did quite well at what it was supposed to do in Iraq. Occupation wasn't part of the job description.
Afghanistan was best done by the CIA and by the time the DoD got there things were already set up for a "victory".
Oh BS. If it were due to some deal with some clandestine organization in any government look at China. MS wants badly to be there and, I'm sure, would be willing to bend some code to their will. Stop blamming the US for everything, there are far more evil entities out there.
The ability for businesses to move jobs without the ability of workers to move with them is economically unhealthy and dangerous. What we have now is a situation in which businesses can move formerly high-education/high-paying jobs to high-education/low-paying countries that do not honor the ability of foreign workers to follow said jobs. For the US this is bad all-the-way around because, ultimately, it represents a movement of capital out of the US to other countries.
Most of your problems with the police are due a California/San Diego thing. The police there tend to be a bit on the "law does not apply to me" side of things.
My $0.02.
That's funny because my wife used to work for a company called DigitalStock that was purchased by Corbis (BG's personal art collection) and was (along with 95% of the personnel) fired. Corbis now sells digital stock images.
I hope so. I tried galeon yesterday on my Tuxphone, and it spawned 3 processes, each taking 9Megs of memory. The poor thing spent most of it's time swapping out to my pcmcia hardrive.
Any luck with dillo? It crashes when trying to render images for me.

And this morning on boot up, my SAV crashed. Just for fun, I let it report the error.
