Store that energy in high performance capacitors and you could cut the waste heat and electrical consumption of electronic devices by some huge amount. Imagine a laptop supercomputer running for months on a charge... of course there would be the energy lost from producing an illuminated display. We need hardware to interface our computers and visual cortices!!! imagine the improved visual experience and reduced energy consumption. Perhaps???
Actually there are several problem with "Naked Nanotubes" that make them potentially very dangerous.
First because of their size, they can go virtually anywhere in a body and lodge virtually anyplace, messing with synaptic structures, metabolic processes, and potentially damaging cell machinery up to and including DNA/RNA. Second they are highly reactive chemically, and because all the interesting chemistry in a human being is organic (i.e. carbon based), nanotubes can and in fact do have significant impacts on everything from endocrine function to muscle contraction.
The good news is if you bind one or both ends of the tube to a substrate it tends the stay put rather well (or in the case of the nano tape, incorporate the tubes into a foam.) Also if you add a metal ion to a tube, you make the tube biologically inert, and therefore much less toxic. So there are existing technologies for making nanotube relatively safe, and we simply need to come up with intelligent ways to produce and dispose of said nanotubes to keep the environment friendly for life as we know it.

Our vital government services are nearing catastrophic failure. In Illinois, gas stations no longer honor state gas vouchers for Highway Patrol Vehicles (they know the state can't pay them.) In California the new Governor just handed the state the new budget and everyone in California is reflexively retching. We finally have a Governor who's honest enough to say if you want it, pay for it, or it goes away. I guess the point here is, at what point does the entire thing go into the toilet, before people get the message, if you want it, you have to pay for it? It doesn't mean let politicians waste it, misuse it, or pocket it. We need to hold our representatives responsible. It does mean if you want schools worth sending kids to, roads that don't rip the wheels off of your car, bridges that don't fall, police and fire departments, or even an end to herds of wandering psychotics walking the street and shooting senators, judges, and innocent children, you need to pay. Tax is only evil when is taken without fair representation of those who are taxed, and succeeds in bringing vital services to those who are taxed.
As a nation, its time to take the reins back from big business, and religious interests, and greedy self serving individuals who think the nations resources are their personal pantry. Its time to get responsible, choose a future full of those things that we can all agree on, and make those things happen. And yes, that includes paying for them.

Convergence had made it possible to create a single device the does virtually everything a person might need for a single person information product. It should support a broad selection of applications, provide complete communications solutions, have a powerful touch interface, be intuitive and easy to use with powerful capabilities just below the surface of the simple touch based UI, it should have easy wireless expansion for peripherals and enhancements, and it should be fully open so new technology and vendors can create new product utilizing its many features. Past tablets were simple laptop computers using MS Windows... predictably the wrong stuff. Powerful linux based OSs, sporting features derived from smart phones, and the artful UIs spawned by Apple, are much closer to what people are looking for. Add the best of what Smart Phones and Laptops have together in a single device, with weight and form factor of an iPad, and you have something which is an almost perfect device. Add lots of interfaces to external storage, computer interfacing, keyboards and stylii, network peripherals, and 3G/4G networks, and you have something that will pretty much displace the rest of the normal personal processing market.
In a related story, it has been reported that top officials at the Social Security Administration are prepared to reduced the entire Social Security System to a Web App and run it on the Amazon Cloud.
I/O devices are use appropriate. Ultimately keyboards will be replaced by advance speech recognition and beyond that, all interfaces will fall to advanced cybernetic hardware to wetware broad channel interfaces. Once computers can talk directly to our minds, senses, and motor centers, the need for external devices is rendered moot (save for museums and emergency technology failures.)

In fact, the only effective way to hack the system would be to black box the entire system (good luck building that model on anything smaller than a big box at Lawrence Livermore), and messing with a tiny group of nodes in a financially interesting place. You'd need the same kinds of computers network resources as the one's doing the trading, and the model analysis would take tens of thousands of person hours and many millions of dollars. Unless you had some certainty of snatching many billions of dollars (before the existing environment simply networked around you and picked your financial carcass clean in the instant of time it takes the neurotransmitters to cross the synapses in your brain), your time would be better spent selling your IP to Wallstreet and cashing at a significantly lower levels of risk.
Of course there are adrenaline junkies who might do it for the risk, or the street cred among hackers... good luck on that, and you might want to purchase that chastity belt now so your stay at Club Fed doesn't include unwanted fraternizing. Don't get me wrong, we can understand parts, and even how some of those parts interact, we simply have no way of comprehending the aggregate and its immense degree of complexity. We have systems milking the tiniest fluctuations in the system sifting out whispers of profit in a hurricane of transactional data. These systems interact with the existing trade ecology and the data dance just keeps growing new harmonics of feedback. Something as ham-fisted as screwing with signal timing would show up like setting off a nuke in nunnery.>/p>
In fact, the only effective way to hack the system would be to black box the entire system (good luck building that model on anything smaller than a big box at Lawrence Livermore), and messing with a tiny group of nodes in a financially interesting place. You'd need the same kinds of computers network resources as the one's doing the trading, and the model analysis would take tens of thousands of person hours and many millions of dollars. Unless you had some certainty of snatching many billions of dollars (before the existing environment simply networked around you and picked your financial carcass clean in the instant of time it takes the neurotransmitters to cross the synapses in your brain), your time would be better spent selling your IP to Wallstreet and cashing at a significantly lower levels of risk.
Of course there are adrenaline junkies who might do it for the risk, or the street cred among hackers... good luck on that, and you might want to purchase that chastity belt now so your stay at Club Fed doesn't include unwanted fraternizing. The conversation has been decisively determine ever since NASA launched the LRO (Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.) There are now super clear images of the lunar surface including the Lunar Landing Modules, human foot prints, rovers and rover tracks, and other equipment left behind. The entire history of human presence on the moon is clearly visible for anyone willing to look at the photographs of the lunar surface.
