    He's a Chicago politician, but spends too much time playing nicey nice with the neocons in washington instead of promoting his accomplishments and ramming through substantive change. If he was more like daley, the republicans would wake up one day to find the equivalent of bulldozers in Meig's field.

    Funny thing - I alternate between calling him a chicago politican and 'Reagan with a tan'

    The DEA is really expensive and fighting the WOD is highly ineffective and has knock on costs beyond the actual cost of the department. We've got plenty of crime to investigate - surely some of the agents can work at the FBI.

    I'm referring to 'regret rape', which happens a fair bit. Were you aware that, in Sweden, rape is a very broad charge, encompassing the sorts of slightly sleazy things one might do in a pickup bar, and has a 5-10% conviction rate? Also, Assange isn't under suspicion anyway.

    Most folks decided a long time back that the work of their own hands should go to those of their own choosing --- and have never truly signed on to the notion that the artist should be compelled to surrender his work to the public domain.

    Copyright is a bargain - if you don't like it, then opt out.

    Yes, actually. 4 years should be enough time to write at grade level - I've seen this first hand: the kid who's motivated does fine, the one who's a slackass scrapes by and uses "I don't understand" when she doesn't want to do something.

    the Canon 5D is 21MP - if you can actually get 30 MP out of 35mm film, it's a 50% advantage, and that pales next to digital's advantages - the immediacy and raw capacity is compelling.

    No, I was demonstrating how the ERA and the recent bit about owners vs. renters follow the same pattern, whereby legislation is introduced with the idea of a particular desired outcome. Both are social engineering.

    Why do you feel that there are causal relationships which imply a default disparity at work here, concerning this particular racial demographic.

    You don't get crucified for the fuckup, you get crucified for the coverup. If Dell had come out and said that they had problems and announced a replacement plan, then it wouldn't have been nearly as bad.

    The worst comcast ever did was start billing me for a modem rental, then demand I return the modem I owned to stop. Sicced the PUC on them and it stopped real fast. Aside from that, the actual phone monkeys are decent, and I pay by check.
