If they can succeed, it would actually be a viable Atkins.
But we already have that. Just because people can nabuse the idea of the Atkins diet doesn't make it unsound - shifting your intake to protein doesn't mean you should eat 2 pound of bloody meat a day. Cutting carbs is a way of lowering total caloric intake without feeling as hungry.
I don't believe you. All the problems are tangential to the point, which is simply the fact that when one is inebriated, one cannot make the decision not to drive.
If that were true, theere would a lot more drunk drivers. From the rather low rate of DUI, we can see that most people don't do it. Why harass them?
If you were a reasonable person, you would understand this, and then agree to have this device installed simply becuase one does not know when one is drunk
I know when I'm drunk, and I don't drive, or I wait a few hours if only slightly buzzed.
Thus cutting down the major source of auto accidents - drunk driving.
Don't you mean sleepy drivers, idiots behind the wheel, and pissed off drivers?
Why should I, who isn't a terrorist, be subjected to security checks before boarding an airplane?
Because, as is the case when you start your car, I would have the ability to be a significant risk to others if I wanted to.
There's a large difference between security checks prior to boarding someone else's plane and starting your own car.
In 21st century America everyone is so very equal that DUI offenders can't possibly be any more likely to drink and drive than, say, the leader of your local Prohibition league.
It isn't that the DUI guy is more likely to repeat, it's just that the head of the prohibition league hasn't been caught.
Hell u can take the licenses away and they will still drive . License is just a piece of paper / plastic with a fine attached to it if u drive with out it.
So do it right: DUI (real DUI, not drunk in a car in a parking lot) loses you your license forever. Get caught driving without a license that you lost because you were DUI, go to jail.
So what? The PowerPC family is rather large, and spans the gamut from 1W on up to >100W. The G5 is not a Power4 - that's quite a different beast.
Sun's annual server sales at 200,000 to 300,000 servers.
The original post wasn't about Suns - it said some, and then mentioned Power4. Sure, Sun sold more total systems, but they weren't all SunFires, and we weren't talking about them. Itanium sucks, so why weaken yourself with distortions? Compare Itanium to like processors, such as they exist.
Yet, other breed of potatos were completely unaffected. It wasn't the reliance on potatos that was to blame, it was the reliance of one strain of potatos that was Irelands achilles heel.
And the next year, the Irish planted the same crop. Why? Because that's all they could afford - the English were taxing them to death.

Mind you, this doesn't address the issue of whether they went into the field precisely because they wanted to figure out the mess, or if they were messed up before they started. But it seemed to be universal, and it brings up a lot of questions about the stability and effectiveness of a lot of the working shrinks out there.
Well duh - most psychologists go into practice to treat their own problems.
For Christ sakes, a company/corporation/conglomerate/etc is NOT, I repeat NOT a person. It is NOT a human being.
Tell that to the supreme court.
The moment you allow large companies to have 'rights', especially rights that equal those of the average citizen, is the day you surrender yourself to them.
If Joe Sixpack American had to pony up extra money out of his wallet every year to pay off the deficit (and not just through withholding taxes, I mean having to write an actual check), how long do you think it would be before there was a full scale revolt?
And rightly so - It's one thing to tell someone that they need to pony up 30% (still nasty), but try going back after the fact and saying "Woops, I spent too much - here's the bill". It's not like that'd be in any way legal.
If there were a similar way to make politicians or the public fiscally-minded, too, it would be nice. Something along the lines of "your share of this year's federal deficit is going onto your VISA card on April 15" would help shape things up in a hurry.
Oh sure, W spends $500B and it goes on my credit card (at 10%, no less) - that's fair! If I'm going to pay for the deficit, then I get a veto too.
I call bullshit, because if you were a real manager who had some clue as how to run an IT or IS group you would never ever cut such a deal and even if you would there's no way you could sell it to legal or accounting.
Well, why the hell not? It's not like you're going to be building those boxes yourself, contract or no. If you need something that Dell can't deliver, buy from somebody else.
I'm not really that bothered about the murder risk in either city - I was just a bit upset that the OP was using the higher incident rate of muggings as a gun justification. I don't think (as (s)he states in a subsequent post) that anyone and everyone should be walking around with instant death for others in their jacket pocket. It's just an opinion.
Well, whether you like it or not, widespread gun ownership does lower violent crime (at least, according to statistics). Conversely, a gun ban usually causes a spike in crime. My problem isn't so much the gun/no gun thing as it is idiotic laws that prevent me from defending myself - as I understand it, if I get mugged in London and I were to beat the mugger senseless, or just pound him until he runs off, I'm criminally liable. That's insane, and all it does is lower the amount of crime that gets reported.
You are FAR MORE LIKELY to get killed in the USA capital than in the UK capital. Lets compare like with like after all.
Okay, then, compare London to NYC. DC is a funky little town full of government agencies and contractors, whereas NYC is a major financial center with people from every country on earth. Also, note that in London and NYC, staying out of the bad areas will severely impact your risks.
Cooking programs make people cook more. Each new DIY show increases the sales at DIY stores. When playbacking shows were first done I remember that all the street festivals also had a playback show.
All those things are socially acceptable and ordinary.
So why not violence then eh?
Because it's not a normal state? When someone unloads with an AK47, it makes headlines. Not so with cooking a roast.
The reason most IT people are pissed off about the job market is because they see themselves as "smarter" or "more deserving" than guys in India. Keep in mind, these Indian guys who are getting these jobs went to college for 4 years too.
Yeah, that's not judgemental at all. I would imagine it has something to do with spending 4 years and a pile of cash only to be told that a living wage is too much.
Maybe American wages are too high and need to be brought down to international standards. Would everyone be clamoring to work in IT if the jobs only paid $5k a year?
Yeah, I could work for $5k if rent was $20/mo. Or I could live in the USA, where a salary of $5k is illegal, and mcDonalds pays $13k. Face it: IT salaries are higher in the US because costs are higher.
And while I'm here, imagine a Beowulf clust...
The proper term is "Platoon"

If licenses were only granted to people who actually knew how to drive and how to behave in traffic
Good luck - you have the AARP brigade to contend with.

The other major RISC CPUs sell by the millions. Your whole post is one big pointless troll.
I hardly think that a G5 compares to a Power4. Care to back up your assertion?>/p>
Most commercial planes have a 20,000 operating hour overhaul schedule.
When was the last time your Delta pilot did a barrel roll?
How is this informative? You're just copying a couple of sentences from the anandtech story. At least attribute it so it isn't plaigarism.

No commercial outfit would be stupid enough to mass install these things
So put in some coper mesh and advertise it - legal, effective, and no doctors will be harmed.
what if a recall notice is sent out?
Like I'd trust a car salesman to send me something like that.

Just driving an older car at 10PM is enough for a traffic stop.
... if you're black.

Rush Limbaugh once made the statement that the fairest and simplest trade agreement with any country is simply, "We'll charge you what you charge us."
Holy Shit, Rush actually said something sensible! If he did that more often and spewed crap less, I'd listen to him.
