That doesn't offend you? Also, it's now NOT evil to bully people just because they're already being bullied?
It offended me when they did it for apps. Most everyone else said, "See! Look at Apple's brilliant app store model! Look at how much MONEY they're making!!"
I don't understand the way slashdot commenters use the word "own." What do you mean, "you don't own your own phone?" Of course you own your own phone. You can make calls on it. You can run Apple approved apps on it. You can smash it if you want. What else do you want?
There, fixed that for you. The answer should be obvious.
Wonder how many hypocrites who previously excoriate all climatologists who caution about global warming as corrupt and biased instantly trumpeting that these brilliant, honest, decent climatologists have to be right because the end result is one that they want.
Butthurt? Then point out that Earth experienced an ice age 500 million years ago despite 4200ppm atmospheric CO2. Oh wait... that's a skeptic's talking point:-P
The government generates plenty of wealth. They print money and hand it out to bankers on wallstreet in bailouts. They like to call it "Quantitative Easing" I believe. "Printing money and giving it to the wealthy ruling class while making everyone else collectively poorer via inflation" is so much more difficult to say.
Right, because that ad is just ham fisted crap. Now if Google tried to pay CBS to run this instead, I would wager CBS would say no... because the ad points out CBS is guilty of distributing filesharing software and encouraging users to pirate music with it. The very thing CBS claims to be against, they did themselves. The very thing that the SCOTUS ruled was illegal in Grokster, but where is the DOJ? Where is the investigative journalism? AOL teaches and encourages you to steal music so Time Warner can sue you in court for thousands of dollars per song. Oh, and they made a fat profit in the software distribution deal too.
Face it. There are two classes in the USA. One group is opressed/enslaved by these laws. The other is exempt.
Long yellows to give everyone a chance to stop, and red light cameras to catch the bastards who don't take that chance.
Longer red in both directions to make sure the intersection is clear before allowing the next lane to move. No cameras. Getting a ticket in the mail 2 months after the fact won't change "the bastard's" behavior. Being stopped by a cop will change "the bastard's" driving behavior almost instantly and for an extended duration. This is especially important if "the bastard" has been drinking.
T-Mobile is very profitable. Deutsche only wants out because it's no longer in growth mode. It certainly won't grow any without spectrum and LTE, and it can't afford either one. So yeah it will be sold or merged one way or another, but it's not a bad business. They can ride their faux-G network for a while but not forever.
As long as they are offering unlimited data for $30 a month with no contract, I'm planning on making T-Mo my next carrier.
Between the server and my box, the message in encrypted. I can read my email on an open wifi without concern someone else in the vicinity is snooping. Between my recipient and I, I sign the message with an s/mime certificate. There are a handful of people on the nerdy mailing lists to which I am subscribed that also sign their messages. On the occasion that I need to mail one of them directly, my message is encrypted. Usually though, the message is just to the list or to non-nerds I know IRL, so it's just signed for them.
I don't get why it's so hard to understand that downloading a movie you didn't pay for is pretty much the same as walking out of a video store with a movie you didn't pay for. The physical medium is unimportant, it's the content that matters here.
No, you've got it exactly backwards. It is the medium, the distribution model, that matters here. Why should we continue to pollute the Earth with plastic discs when a much more efficient, cheap, and convienent method of distribution exists? Hasn't this planet been fucked up enough by people is search of profit?
The distribution industry, and let's go ahead and call it that since that is what it is, doesn't make anything but scarcity. The bands create the music. The directors and actors and screen writers create the movies. The media companies distributes shiny plastic discs and reels of tape. They are dinosaurs insisting it is their birthright to take a cut of every movie, song, or book distributed.
Essentially, they are Edision arguing against AC current. They are trying to legislate away a better distribution method. Instead of investing in lawyers and lobbyists, they should have invested in the new distribution model. They should have been inventing iTMS. Instead, they rested on their laurels while Apple took over the industry.
If you want to enjoy it, at least have the decency to pay for it.
iTunes: Billions served. But since you brought it up, when was the last time you cut a check to Sir Tim Berners-Lee? Oh, yeah, I forgot... you're just freeloading on his hard work, right?
If nobody paid for the hard work of others then the world would be a much worse place.
A world where all knowledge and entertainment is cheap, convenient, and readily available to anyone who's interested, any time, any place... Oh, the horror, the horror:-|
as there are still many exploits out for the mac, they just silently fix them or take three years to get around to it [krebsonsecurity.com]
iTunes exploit? Very last line "Amato said he was unable to replicate the problem on OS X systems during his research.":-)
Fact is there have been tons of exploits for OSX but the fanbois and apple do their best to pretend it doesn't exist.
No one pretends they don't exist. Mac users just don't generally encounter them and that's my point. For most Mac users, viruses/trojans/worms are not an issue. I don't know anyone who uses a mac that even runs antivirus software of any kind. It's just not necessary.
Then you have the fact that apple is usually the first the fall in pwntoown [slashdot.org].
Again, you're agreeing with me. Pwn to own used a Safari exploit. Safari is also on iPhad and iPwn... meaning they are just as vulnerable as the Mac. The walled garden is not offering those users any protection.
I'm not arguing Macs are immune. I'm arguing that Macs are just as "problem free" as these iOS devices which are being billed by AC as immune. Obviously AC is wrong. If you want to get your panties in a bunch about anything, it should be about that.
> General use PCs have proven to become virus/worms/problem infested in the hands of "normal" users..
This. Normal users have lived with the crapware infested mess that is "general PCs" for years, and they HATE IT.
Macs are general use PCs and have proven to be virus/worm/problem free for years in the hands of "normal" users. Winblowz users might hate their machines, but buying an iPhad and walling yourself off from Pulitzer prize winning writers is not the only option.
All the talk of how manufacturing will create jobs is just that, talk.
False. Apple is creating massive job opportunities in the environmental cleanup industries in China. It's just that Chinese law allows Apple to pollute and poison the countryside without needing to pay for the cleanup. Apple, like the gulf polluting BP, exploits lax local regulations to make a fat profit at the expense of the local environment. Remember, this is a company that has Al Gore on it's board of directors. Shame shame Mr. Gore. Your actions speak much louder than your words.
He also misrepresents the entire process of modern agriculture - namely, none of the inputs are implicitly dependent on the active production of more CO2
I think you forgot about tillage.
What about that is implicitly dependent on CO2 producing means?
It doesn't matter what fuel the tractors burn. Tillage produces CO2 because it oxidizes the organic matter in the soil. It's basically burning coal millions of years before it becomes a rock. FYI: Soil oxidation and erosion generates 12-15 times more CO2 annually than the burning of all fossil fuels combined.
As a result, clearing fallow land in the name of corn based biofuels has increased CO2and increased world hunger and starvation. Ethanol is all about increasing the price of corn for midwestern US farms. If you believe anything else, you're deluding yourself.
But don't listen to a thing I say, because I'm skeptical of the IPCC and their conclusions. <sarcasm>Obviously I am receiving funds from some oil company with no scientific basis for my opinions.</sarcasm>
That doesn't offend you? Also, it's now NOT evil to bully people just because they're already being bullied?

I wonder why pirates don't post their stolen movies on youtube?
Because youtube videos are limited to 10 minutes?
No, the problem is our enemies do not fear us.
So we're supposed to terrorize our enemies... Who are we? Al Qaeda?
Why yes, yes I did. Thank you for pointing that out.
Wonder how many hypocrites who previously excoriate all climatologists who caution about global warming as corrupt and biased instantly trumpeting that these brilliant, honest, decent climatologists have to be right because the end result is one that they want.

Galciation has never come close to killing off any humans in Africa.
False. 70,000 years ago, glaciation nearly wiped out humanity.
I'll take a bit more war over a near extinction event that we can't control.
It appears you've never been in a real war.
It appears you've never been in a near extinction event. :-)
I'm pointing out the method is bad. The uneven distribution of new money is my core issue here. It gives the central bankers unlimited power.
The problem is independent film makers! If just anybody can distribute their movie online and make a forture, why would they sell their movie to Paramount for a pennance?
The government generates plenty of wealth. They print money and hand it out to bankers on wallstreet in bailouts. They like to call it "Quantitative Easing" I believe. Just like snow on Copenhagen is weather, not climate, right?
No, it's the fact that Apple has a damn-near monopoly on mobile purchases,
And why is that? Because "it just works!"(TM)
You are welcome to build an alternative. But it better be (very) good.
Welcome? Apple sues anyone who builds an alternative.

(not that that will stop me from commenting..)
and that is what's wrong with the world.
I don't know jack abut the subject, but I'll be damned if that stopped me from commenting like I'm an expert.
Welcome to every climate change discussion on slashdot.
You mean like the deep solar minimum of 2008/2009?
Yeah, kinda like that. 2008 2009 2010
