I don't know enough about operating systems to say, but would it be possible to make a library that overrode the NSMenuView and made it use pie menus instead?
Uh, winmodems weren't invented, nor are they currently designed, by Microsoft. It is just a generic term meaning a modem that uses CPU and OS resources in place of some onboard chips to lessen the cost, Sorry to burst your bubble.
Usually you use acronyms when the phrase itself is already part of daily conversation. Like you can say TV, FYI, etc. to most people, and they know what you mean, because it is so commonly used. DMCA and CBDTPA get mentioned enough on their own that most people know what they are already. Things like TWOK don't- where that acronym might make sense on a fansite, it means nothing to most of the people here.
Independent of all that, was the AOL shot at the parent's parent post really necessary?
Let's hear it for out of context quotes! They are the key to true insight. (not bashing the parent post at all, just wish the author of article had included the full sentence).
Anyone got the original sentence that quote came from? The fact that it says "fixed the flaws in the open source licencing" rather than "fixed the flaws in open source licencing" suggest to me there is more to that sentence...

Use overrated.. that way it is still marked as humor (even if poor humor), but has a low rating.
It's fairly easy to say it is moronic from our view, since we have a decent knowledge of the subject. It is probably very hard to have a good knowledge of each field things are patented in, given the broad spectrum of things that get patented, the vast amount of patent applications, and the limited amount of people processing those applications.
With very few exceptions, unfortunately, I find most anonymous cowards are just bad trolls that try to get a rouse out of people.. for the most part, they are best left ignored.
Opera's had pop-up blocking for a while- and easily accessible too, for sites with legit popups. Just press F12, and click refuse pop up windows. I can understand AOL Time Warner's hesitation to include this feature in Netscape 7, but it sure comes in handy for porn sites.:P
Yeah, I was going for funny, don't know why I got the insightful.. the presentation was great.. it's just that Flash gets so horribly used most of the time:)
What makes you think they didn't just hire someone to make and host the webpage? wehavethewayout.com was running Apache for a while. It's highly irrelevant what the server is running, for the end user.
Horrible trolling attempt (one of the worst I've seen), but I'll bite..
Yeah, cause they must have reverse engineered the whole PostScript spec.. it's not open or anything.. really...
Jeez, give me a break- they aren't going to get in any more trouble than someone would for implementing HTTP and HTML parsing in a product. Adobe WANTS people to use PostScript. Hence the whole open spec thing.
Would be nice, but not gonna happen. There is a lot of code in the BeOS codebase that Be licenced from third parties- they cannot release that code to the public. Efforts like OpenBeOS are looking good though.
Seriously, what's wrong with reposts? They don't happen enough to be annoying.. I don't read Slashdot every day, and I hadn't seen this article. So it gives people who haven't seen it before a chance to check it out, and people who have read it can just ignore it.

What would happen if groups started releasing code without a licence at all? Why don't they?

It is great. It requires Flash.
Don't those two statements contradict eachother?
*ducks*
6 digits for company, 6 digits for product. That's how you go through 12 digits.
Is the extra digit going to be on the company side or the product side of the barcode?
Um, wrong site.

..."open" but not "free" registration
In what was is NYTimes registration not free? Is it the part where you pay $0, or the part where you don't give them any money?

SATs don't really test intelligence.

Agreed.. the original parent to your post was pretty stupid to say model rockets should be outlawed in general.
