Why would anyone care to contribute to a proprietary, for-profit encyclopedia that they probably already had to pay for just to access in the first place? Do they really expect hordes of people to pay for the privilege of editing their articles for free while they rake in all the profit?
If you install Yahoo! Messenger and sign on with your email ID, you should be able to use its Yahoo Mail notifier which alerts you of new emails through the Windows system tray. So among Yahoo software the notifier feature is not new. For existing users of YM this means one less reason why they would wanna use the Yahoo Toolbar.
I am facing the same problem of trying to make use of both Comcast and DSL. Right now I am using either one or the other but never both.
Just would like to inquire: How are you "pooling" your connections together, and how would that work for uploads?
I am assuming you are using a software product such as Vicomsoft Intergate to perform what's called "connection teaming". Am I mistaken on this? Thanks in advance!
Simple really, just periodically run a free online scan from sites such as Trend Micro (java plugin required) to detect for virii. No need to shell out for a copy and subscription to the latest Norton 200x.
So I get to pay extra for an extended warranty on a bundled system?
And to be entirely at the mercy of the service center that can hold your computer up for *weeks* without warning, and that can charge you for components not covered on your extended warranty? (you *have* read the fine print, haven't you?)
And I get to wipe out the contents of my entire hdd to protect my contents from unwelcomed, prodding fingers?
And despite the fact that components bought separately still come with their own warranty ? (most motherboards with 1-year, and AMD processors with 3-year provided you bought retail)
Where do I sign up?
p.s. Coming from someone who has been burnt more than once by PC "warranties", there is always the place for warranties, but they most certainly are *not* the silver bullet to keeping upgrade cycles within your budget for time and costs.
I think the level of instrusiveness is essentially similar in both cases. No one forces you to be staring at your monitor (or having your speakers on) either. You could well be checking on your Kazaa downloads or catching up on the IRC channel for the full 15 seconds.
Speaking of intrusiveness, this reminds me of magazines where, just to find the table of contents, they have you sift through ad after ad after ad... And when trying to turn to the page 76 containing the cover story, you are again lost in a sea of full-page ads that don't even show page numbers. Unintentional? I think not...

As far as I know there are UNIX and Mac OS versions of Yahoo! Messenger. They may contain the email alert feature you're looking for.

Cydoor and Brilliant Digital surpass everything else to become the most-installed spyware ever.
