    Exactly- regardless of whether or not Netscape is an AOL company, they're going to do whatever makes the most sense in keeping their market position.

    That XP bundling deal is just too nice of an offer.. can't really blame them at all.

    Holy cow.. my girlfriend's mom works in QA and she was telling me about this about ten months ago. For the longest time, I was half blowing her off, thinking the same thing-- guys at the beach playing volleyball or surfing and then sitting down with the laptop to hack..

    I once had an opportunity to see the Northern Lights from Norway about 80 miles south of the Arctic circle.

    Still, to this day, the single coolest thing I have ever seen. Imagine an all-natural Pink Floyd laser show.

    All very true, but certainly you'd have to agree that the syntax found in ASP (VBScript) is much easier for the new developer to pick up than what's found in Perl or PHP.

    It's funny how they've even adopted other geek aspects.. Sports Center used to be that.. now it's SportsCenter. There are hundreds of other examples of this out there as well.

    Everything's a variable now.

    The whole genome sequencing patent race has me mightily pissed off. But as someone mentioned a couple of weeks ago- maybe it's going to take something as rediculious as this to bring the entire patent-granting operation to its knees.

    I think the metaphor used was of a guy walking into a forest and patenting every different type of tree he came up upon. Another favorite is the Amazon.com "one-click" patent. That's like Henry Ford whipping up a nice car and patenting the tires!

    Great take -- you need the basics to build from there. You're right when you say HS shouldn't be about cutting edge, but rather the basic building blocks of learning. Not even so much totally academic learning either as it should be a place to learn to think. From there, it's up to the student.

    Bottom line, we need teachers to inspire students to want to learn and read and have that thirst for knowledge.. they need to be taught to think and make logical decisions as well.
