    Thawte and Verisign have different root certs. Verisign bought Thawte out, but since that, Thawte's certificates have still been a lot cheaper than Verisign's for exactly the same thing.

    I guess now Verisign thinks everyone has forgotten, so they are pulling Thawte's certificates off the market, to force people to pay the higher price for Verisign.

    Their code runs 15% faster on "Quake3" than "Quack3" -- for exactly the same rendering code.

    It's not as if they can write into their drivers "perform faster in certain conditions" (or else everybody would be doing it) -- all they can do is say "perform slower in certain conditions". They must be making the rest of their code slow down on purpose so that Quake 3 is fastest.

    Next question -- why? This would only help if one was comparing various applications on the same card -- not cross-card comparisons of the same application.

    The impression I got from reading the article was that this device would generate up to 700W of electricity on its output lines (by converting the heat into electricity), and it would only require electricity input if you wanted to heat the target device

    But whenever you make a programming fuckup in DOS, it hangs and you have to reboot... so how did you manage that? :)

    Oh, this reminds me of another question: how do modern OSs do memory protection? I don't think the OSs can run everything in VM to trap all memory accesses? or do they scan their code for addresses and test them as it goees? or what

    Faster? Flash is hideously slow for random access, because it's impossible to set a bit to '1' without setting the whole 16k chunk (or whatever segment size you have) to all 1s

    Yes. Have you ever noticed how a thin family with one fat person is rare and an entire bunch of fatasses is much more common?

    This could be explained by genetics, lifestyle, or a fat virus, so it is actually not a very useful observation at all.

    Always meet IRC people for the first time at irc parties. Only meet them one-on-one if you know they are cool and you are only looking for friends and not sex

    I find that the overhead involved in typeid() and RTTI (and the difficulty in getting it to work!) is too much. It's far easier (and often more practical) to add an identifier flag to your class.

    Winamp is gay for CDs anyway, because it finishes one track and the player starts the next track by itself, but then Winamp notices the track is done, stops, and starts again, it is incredibly annoying. MS CD player is best for playing CDs, unless you want fancy shit.

    You need that program that lets you record Windows "batchfiles" by observing your mouse clicks and such
