I think it would be more appropriate for us to isolate australia from most of the net. We should setup our webservers and such to ban people from Australia from accessing America and Canadian content unless they remove this law. Imagine what would happen to Australia if they were basically banned from accessing content from the US, Canada, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Britain, Germany and Japan.... the most internet oriented countries in the world.
What we need is a system that gives you say: 2 years of english 2 years of math algebra (I+II) and geometry 1 year or science 2 years of social studies (government/politics and history) 4 years of 1 or 2 foreign languages (immersion, not bastardizations like the spanglish taught in schools) 4 years of a skill like coding, engineering, science, plumbing, etc
The problem is that high schools aren't geared towards teaching students how to take their talents and make something highly marketable out of them. If you have a kid who likes to tinker give them classes on coding, engineering or mechanics. Same goes for all other areas. I disagree to you when it comes to the required classes in some ways, but overall I agree. Some things are needed so that you have students who are well-rounded.
Why do we need new taxes? Why not just extend sales tax to the internet? I know that this is a proposal for no taxes, but seriously it could ruin local economies if everyone sets up shop only on the net. Just make companies pay sales tax to the state they are located in. Since CA's sales tax is.07 per dollar and VA's is.045 per $, wouldn't VA companies have an advantage in that way? If anything it would help create competition among states to provide better laws for tech companies. Just my $.02
I am sick and tired of having to pay $500 for programs I want. And companies wonder why the only 2 non-games I have bought are a copy of Mandrake 6 and BeOS R4. Still though I am planning on working in the computer industry and the thought of having interest in programmers bottom out because companies can't afford to hire new ones is depressing.
Hell yeah! Maybe we will be able to buy non-Mac PC's that use PPCs. I would really like to have a G4 Mac and a G4 Linux box in my room with my HP Pavilion running COL2.3 so I can setup a decent network.
I remember reading an article by him where he strongly advocated nationalizing microsoft! Look on zdnet's site for his articles from february of this year
Let's all start buying $300-$600 emachine boxes and start making servers out of them. If and when I get the money I will either buy one for that purpose or if scsi parts are cheaper I will make my own.
why doesn't the debian group ask a federal court to ban the importation of corel linux into the US if they don't change the license. That would be more effective than just asking nicely. Since most of their market is here in the US, if they had an exporation ban against them it would cripple them if they don't change the license.
You are there to do work, not surf the net for fun. If it is such a big deal for you then bring a laptop and use it for personal stuff during coffee breaks.
The FBI is useless anyway

Customs takes down more online pedophiles every month than the FBI takes down in a year. The FBI also has the lowest conviction rate of all federal agencies. I don't care what the commie liberals say, but the FBI is the american KGB and we *ARE* a police state
Why not just require all porn sites to register.xxx domains? I know.xxx doesn't exist yet, but wouldn't that be a much easier way for adults to do their business without worrying about the kids? Hell it would probably take only a few dozen lines of C++ code to parse the domain name for.xxx and to put a popup that says hey kid, you aren't old enough yet! That isn't censorship since an adult can just type in a password in the browser and access the site without any trouble.
If you read some of the libertarian and anarchist content on the net you should know that there are 2 forms of socialism: -statist socialism-government uses coercion to get people to work together -libertarian socialism-groups of people work together peacefully to make society better, almost no government here. I could be wrong, but I would bet that most OSS developers are libertarian, not statist socialists. Let's face it, CSS (closed source) will never die.... but it won't have the facist style grip it has economy now in the future. Loop at apple, OSS'ing OS X! They are capitalists people, not communists. As far as the GPL goes, it is only 1 part of the OSS movement, the most radical one. Allowing the proponents of GPL only OSS to define OSS would be like allowing puritans to define christianity.
hmmmm lets see if they can match nintendo, sony and sega's brand names in the console market..... nope. Can't bully your way into this market megalosoft..... sony, nintendo and sega already control it and if you take wince away from sega they just might use a stripped down version of BeOS instead.....
The problem is that if the OSS movement doesn't make a big name for itself on other platforms it will collapse if Linux should for some reason fail. I don't know if it has already been done, but a port of GCC with an easy to use IDE addon would be a very big step towards getting more OSS Mac software.
I pay $20 a month for my earthlink account.... what is keeping the blacks from paying $20 a month? If you are too $%^&ing lazy to save up for a computer and buy a monthly internet account then you get no sympathy from me. Last thing we need is for racists like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to push for (and probably get) socialized internet access.
Delphi is atleast a respectable tool, but I wonder how long it will take before Microsoft ports VB? VB is funny to work with... just cut and paste your apps together.
I am sometimes on the net for 8-9 hours a day (yes I have had my fair share of girlfriends, one even *loved* the internet and she looked pretty good)...... and I have to symptoms of withdrawl at school or any other time when I am disconnected from my measly 56k connection (atleast I connect at almost 56k). I wish someone would perfect a wireless networking system so that if I get an adsl connection where I live I can put a small radio reciever on my roof and connect to the internet from my laptop when I am about 15 miles away from home in town.:)
I personally prefer Music Match Jukebox. It is more reliable on my computer than AudioCatalyst. AC tends to have some problems with my ide dvd-rom. MusicMatch 4 is free if you only want to do 96kbps encoding, but it costs $30 for up 320kbps. http://www.musicmatch.com
If Linux becomes #1 then how will pirates in china and taiwan make any money when you can get it for free? I wonder if my school's principal will try to get me arrested because he is too stupid to understand the GPL and that I can legally distribute linux for free.
perhaps the next version of the Linux kernel needs to be released under a more restricting license that doesn't allow for people to distribute modifications without the development team's consent.
Clinton has commited the worse crime he could commit against the American people, treason. He gave away nuclear warhead secrets and sold the chinese a fuck in super computer for $30,000. Not super computer as in dual PIII by the old "super computer" definition, but one of the beasts that the military and intelligence agencies would use to guide their systems, or a scientist would use for a mega number crunching. He has armed the fuckin commies in China who have openly threatened to nuke LA if we intervene on taiwan's behalf! Now he wants to screw us over again, how can anyone be surprised?

You shouldn't be able to patent code, software technologies and the like. You can copyright them, but you have no right to patent them.

wouldn't you have to store that kind of system in a meatlocker to keep it from burning up?

that's I have no symtops of withdrawl.

Forget KOffice for now, AbiSource needs help with getting AbiWord working. I have used the BeOS and Windows versions, it is going to be very good.
