I would love to get a PPC box from IBM running LinuxPPC. I wish that companies like Dell would start selling PPC boxes cuz while my powerbook is a lovely little beast, I would rather have a box designed for LinuxPPC. Imagine being able to get a quad PPC box running Linux!! You could use an smp enabled x86 emulator to play all the games not ported to LinuxPPC

Corel is the solution, atleast for businesses to Microsoft. Imagine the outcome if Corel bundles its Linux distro and WP9 for $200! Now compare that to $250-$270 for NT and $500 for Office2000. It will be very interesting to see what RedHat does to keep from getting the shit kicked out of it by Corel. By the way for anyone who is interested, in the august issue of MaximumPC there is a full page review of RH6. I think they gave it an 8 out of 10.

I know it is a crude test, but I used my watch's stop watch to clock the boot time for Win98 vs BeOS r4.5
BeOS: 15 seconds (I had a 300kb compressed jpeg background res:1024x768 and 32-bit color) Win98: 1 minute 10 seconds (I had a 2mb bmp res:1024x768 and 32-bit color)
My main argument was that open source isn't always better software and OSS stuff like GTK, etc aren't instantly easier to write for. Every comment I have read written by BeOS coders say that they find it to be one if not the easiest OS ever made to write code for.

What makes you think that open-source software is any easier to develop? Be has documented the entire BeOS API and provides tons of sample code on every CD they sell. If you subscribe to the Be developer newsletter then they usually send more sample code plus tutorials in every issue. Don't get me wrong, I am not anti-linux. I do question the logic behind GPL'ing apps all the time. As a person trying to learn C++, I want to be able to make money off of the app itself... not supporting it. OSS has its place, and it is definitely got an impressive list of apps. However we need moderation because an all OSS world is no different than an all closed source world.
Show a Linux box and a Wintel box to a newbie and they won't be able to tell the difference. In fact the newbie will probably out of ignorance say that linux is a rip-off of windows. Many linux and BeOS users don't agree with you. BeOS has a better chance at getting into the home market than linux because it will take too much time to get linux up to the level of ease of use that BeOS has (or even god forbid windows has). I don't see why any Linux user would want to push Linux as a consumer OS when it is much better as a server OS. If you Linux everwhere type people aren't careful you could end up making Linux just as bad as windows (that would suck big time).
Amiga won't be able to make a multimedia OS that can compete against BeOS if they go with the linux kernel instead of QNX. Now if they were building an amiga server OS off of linux then I would say that they would probably do very well, but that is not their plans. Frankly BeOS has a better chance of winning than Amiga since it is a really good OS and it is already being preloaded by atleas 6 OEMs.
Think of the FUD that M$ will be able to spread!!!! Linux user=commie revolutionary hell bent on crushing the american dream. Anyone who has watched M$ knows that they play themselves out to be the embodyment of the american dream because they started fairly poor and became insanely rich. I can just see the FUD -Linux/FreeBSD user=commie revolutionary -BeOS and/or MacOS X users=socialist revolutionaries because BeOS and MacOS X are half way between OSS and commercial software and socialism is 50/50 capitalism and communism. (Most of BeOS's tools are GNU tools)

The only japanese cars that look anything alike are of course different models made by the same company. I can tell an american car because it looks like 75% of the other cars in the parking lot and is ugly as hell. I can tell a japanese car because the designs are very different from american or other japanese cars, and they aren't ugly like american cars. American car companies only have 1 thing that they are the best at, making the ugliest cars in the world.

I have R4.5 installed and its gui is very different from MacOS's.
