    I recall in the not too distant past an asking price of 1 million dollars for a new earthship outside of Taos. If you do it yourself, it IS considerably cheaper. But still: A tire house for a million bucks? Not quite "extremely cheap".

    Ever filled a tire with dirt, and then packed it down? Many times? Then built walls out of them? Me neither, looks too damn hard :)

    Like anyone here has a say in what technology will be used. We can (and do) advise, but the decisions are made elsewhere. Most are told what they will support.

    I really don't understand why this was moderated as a troll. Emotional? Yes. But in content, it seems to me to be a not unreasonable assessment of current political posturing.

    Americans were whipped into a frenzy after 9/11, and backed a bunch of spending and government expansion. This was all "led" by the people in office at the time. The majority of those people were affiliated with the republican party. Now people (some of them the same) affiliated with that same party, are telling us the deficit is the other guy's fault. I'm sorry , I don't buy it.

    We thought we got away with 2 wars and the largest expansion of government since the New Deal. We were wrong. The bill is coming due, and we're finding out we are going to have to pay after all.

    You have already concluded there is a "body" - and therein lies the problem.

    Much of the discussion has assumed the guilt of the accused. The correct principle is presumption of innocence. The accused should not be compelled to provide assistance, especially to parties who are already looking to convict.

    It's not like the Prosecution wants to find proof of innocence. It's better for them to secure the conviction

    ...and you've exposed the secret - developers can create and deliver good code WITHOUT being audited to death. The whole "lean six-sigma/ITIL/insert-the-name-of-your-favorite-process-methodology-here" is just another way for bean-counters and MBAs to pretend they can do something to add value to an endeavor.

    Because there is re-election potential in prolonging the Cold War paradigm?

    My first thought was the same as yours; This hurts NASA.

    However, I'm not sure this is really a hindrance to NASA. If we were to create a partnership with China, what would they bring to that partnership, that NASA doesn't already have? I'm having a hard time coming up with something other than "Money".
