DELETE... has to file a journal record for every row deleted (assuming you're using a DBMS with journalling). TRUNCATE generally doesn't do journaling and is faster.
slashdot doesn't even need to store comments. They could just randomly generate some "frosty piss!!", some "brown rope", some "kdawson is a retard", and some "dupe!" posts.
didn't you get the memo? Barack H. Obama is the new messiah. HE has brought forth HOPE. HE will pay for our cars and houses. HE will create 3 million new jobs. And HE has totally ripped abs.
You don't enjoy it when a hot girl ties you down, injects a pint of saline into your nutsack, shoves a glass rod up your urethra, and shits on your chest? To each his own, pervert.
Because it's major browser, on a minority desktop environment, on an irrelevant (to the desktop) OS. They didn't mention Net+, Cyberdog, or QNX Voyager either.
eh, sounds like a typical night at the slashdot geek compound, what with Cowboy Neil shoving a phone up his ass, calling himself for the vibrator effect and lighting his farts on fire.
Since when? If I buy patent rights I'm certainly entitled to re-sell (or even license it) those rights as I please.
But if you only license the patent, your usage is limited by the licensing agreement which most likely doesn't let you re-sell or sublicense. Likewise, with licensing of copyrighted material or renting property.
My understanding (from a book I read on it years ago) was that he catted it to his screen but didn't redistribute or even keep a copy of some (most? all?) of the stuff in question.
Let's expand that to more cool projects to watch in 2009 (or beyond)
I nominate:

Also, 2008 seemed to be the year of the GIT, with projects dumping svn, fanboys flooding slashdot, and github being the cool new place to host repositories.
8 of the items listed are updates to existing open source projects, dating back as much as 10+ years. They can probably republish this article next year with minimal changes, which means it's kind of useless.
Open Source software is generally released early and often, so it's not likely to be cool or exciting when first released, and it slowly becomes more robust and feature-full over time. That doesn't fit into the "xxxx of 2008!" list.
Happened before? They've had 4 years to fix it and haven't? Or is this only affecting people who bought old refurbished models and never updated the firmware?
Good idea! Reset the clock to Decemeber 31st and see if it zunes.
if you s/Darwin/Microsoft/, (or stop reading after the first half) this comment would be +5 insightful.
Summary: Theory: Microsoft intentionally leaked windows 7. Since it's not verifiable, it's garbage and should be ignored.
sounds like a typical LUG meeting to me.
This is disgusting!! CmdrTaco should sue you for libel.

If she wanted a fat cock in her pussy, would she tell you? Yeah. Your anecdote excludes families that aren't into inbreeding.
