    It's a stretch to say those are intended to organize existing information. It's cool that they let their engineers work on side products, it's cool that they turn side projects into real projects. It's not cool that they're half assed and abandoned.

    I was assuming this would be ARM based (i love my linksys NSLU2!), but it uses the IT3107 which is apparently [warning: PDF] based on the SPARC core. If it wasn't so expensive, I'd buy one for that reason alone (ok, and because it runs linux).

    at this point, anything google does is going to piss off someone. They need to keep growing to keep the suits happy, but the more they grow, the less I (and others) like them. Yahoo tried to be everything to everybody and failed it bigtime. Maybe if their search wasn't full of shit results they could look it up.

    OS X Leopard *is* certified Unix (r). Ubuntu (and Linux) is not based on original AT&T Unix code nor is it certified Unix. It is a unix-like kernel.

    I used to work in the industry. TTY means use terminal emulator/telnet into a unix (HPUX, AIX), OpenVMS, or Windows NT box. VTxxx control codes are used (like curses, but not). GNU/Linux does not make it easier since it's probably written in COBOL or MUMPS (in it's on VM with little underlying OS interaction).

    Actually, in the US, it's fairly common for pre-pay mobile phone plans to give a discount on larger blocks of time. I used to use a laundromat that used their own tokens -- 3 for $1, with a better exchange rate for $5, $10, and $20 transactions. The discount isn't because it reduces their costs so much as they get more cash flow up front and you the consumer are locked in.

    Aside from the transaction fee previously mentioned, CC transactions that aren't done in person also need address verification (not free) and the rates are higher. Visa and MC are more evil than MS and dick you over like Michael Jackson with a preteen boy.
