They seem to have the "can't re-sign it" part figured out, but the "can't sand off" seems to be a bit flawed. I was quite disappointed when I discovered it had worn off.

Best Buy is the only place that has ever checked mine.

The card is about 3 years old, the signature has worn off completely, and I can't resign it (so far no pen seems to write on the mangled signature panel). So they always check my ID.

But what's the point anyway? I can go online and spend thousands of dollars with no verification, so what is the point of checking my ID in store?

  3. Is the software free? on Sony takes on iPod Shuffle · · Score: 2, Insightful
I think most of the competition is underestimating the value of iTunes. Since iTunes is free on Windows, standard on Mac, and generally considered to be a decent piece of software, lots of people use it-- whether they have MP3 players or not.

If someone spends a lot of time living with a certain piece of music management software, when the time comes to choose a player, they're going to lean towards the one that integrates best with what they have. If they can't see or use the software without buying the player, that will impact the decision in a negative way.

That is not the same thing. We pay taxes to the Federal government, and our state can make a decision that allows the Federal government to prevent those funds from being used for the intended purpose.

The equivalent in your example: the President of the company institutes the mandate, and your manager refuses to allow his employees to be tested, so his employees all get fired. They didn't make the choice, but they pay the consequences.

I was just reading something yesterday where soldiers are saying that when dealing with the threats we're dealing with now, an injured enemy doesn't take two or three combatants off the field. They are perfectly willing to let their own die and keep fighting. And in many cases the injured enemies are even still fighting... until shot three or four times.

The supposed advantage of .223 was that the ammunition was so much lighter, so they could carry more (or carry the same amount with lighter packs), but where is the advantage when it takes four shots to do what the M-14 (.308) or M-1 (.30-06) did with one?
