Why is it not a possiblity for you that, which by the way has been proven over and over again, that RT -- the mouth of the Russian government and outgrowth of TAAS -- the media arm of the Soviet Union is simply lying. Have you ever been to their website? It is a conspiracy theorists mouthpiece. Anti-American, and anti-west in general. Pan-Arabist at times, such as now. In short -- liars.
Self-taught, learned Basic, Pascal, C back in High School. Got a job and career without a degree, wanted to get a degree, thirteen years after high-school eventually got Computer Science degree. From that perspective I can tell you that it only made me a thinking programmer (not just a coder), a program designer. Topics such as asymptotic analysis are indispensable. Those who do not have such a degree, I found them to be lacking in code quality. Computer Science degree is absolutely needed.
Sorry, but I am missing your entire point. Because computers can drive cars (which does not require any GUI at all, btw.) you are complaining the fact that you operate with keyboard and mouse? What else do you expect? Operate a computer with a gas pedal and a wheel? Metro is made for embedded systems. Think your car navigator, where you use a touch-screen on a relatively small panel stuck to your dashboard. You click "Directions" and say your directions out loud, the speech recognition will (or should) translate the speech into text of a the street address and there you go -- you got yourself a destination. However a precise computer operations, that functionality is extremely limited. Try typing a word document or fill out a spreadsheet on a touchscreen of your car navigator (or a smartphone). You ain't going anywhere fast.
It is very unfortunate that JWST means the end if Hubble. JWST provides only infrared spectrum (and we already have seperate telescopes that do infraded and x-ray), while Hubble does ultraviolet and optical. Servicing Mission 4 was under the thread of being canceled, however even though it is completed, all the finances are now invested into JWST, so SM4 was the last mission to the Hubble.
It seems that neither the general public nor the Assanage understand the game-plan. It is fairly easy. They intend on making him so paranoid that he will become a prisoner of his own making. Even if he manages to get out of London unmolested by the British police their security aparatus, and get to Ecuador -- he will be a wanted man across the entire Commonwealth spectrum, because in effect by leaving he will be breaking British law. That will effectively make him both a most wanted and persona-non-grata within much of the world. The only places where he will be able to travel freely would be within the new Bolivarian states, Russia and perhaps some of the Middle East. But even than he won't be able to travel freely at all, and perhaps will not be able to step out within the confines of his future place of living in Ecuador, because there will be many who would want to capture and deliver him to any British enclave. (in Americas think Stanley, or Georgetown, or even Ottawa). And the best part about it -- all Americans have to do is to continue denying that they are actively perusing him while giving subtle hints and "leaks" that they actually do.
Wow, and you are supposed to be a female according to your handle. (Girl in training? Well you could be a tranny, my mistake than, sorry.) Anyways, back to the point, US role has never been proven at all in this issues. US is not even an actor but an alleged "conspiracy" shadow actor without any prove or evidence other than a couple of US officials mentioning that Assange should be sharing the same cell with his buddy Pfc. Manning. Second. Sweden wanted to question him, and submit him for HIV tests. Did he rape them? We don't know. The claim is as defined by UK law would ammount to rape. Forcing sex on a sleeping woman against the pre-agreed conditions is rape by any definition. He cowardly ran, and thus defined the legal authority of Swedish government. UK did EVERYTHING POSSIBLE for him legally, offering him the best bail conditions, best accomodations and multiple appeals at the cost to the state even going in a diplomatic row with Sweden over that. The appeal process was lost. What does he do again? He runs again betraying his host country and hides in the embassy of the known anti-American government of Raffael Correa. And throughout all of that we are having some idiotic morons blaming American government for that?
P.S. If you are a really a female, and god forbid ever get raped -- I hope your rapist will get off scott free by running away and claiming you as a liar and nothing but an employees government conspiracy to incriminate him, so that you would know what it feels like to be on receving end of your comment:
caved to US demands to fabricate excuses and crimes to get this man back here -- all because he embarassed us politically, showing the world our true colors in the war on terror
Just a horrible observation: this has seriously gotten out of hand and it is getting worse. Back twenty years ago, there were only a limited number of known viruses, that identity definitions / checksums of all of them could have fitted on a single database file big enough for a single floppy disk. Nowdays the combination complicated operating systems with weak security, security bugs on internet software and abundance of poor programmers in the 3rd world countries willing to sell their code of ethics, morals and their mother for two thousand dollars per exploit make it virtually impossible for anti-virus companies to maintain a product and database to keep these off. In my experience, my customers in most cases were duped in downloading these pieces of thiefware. My personal thought back than was "I wish I could lock this computer in read-only state so that they can not do absolutely anything stupid except turn it on, browse and turn in back off."
In light of this there must be a new way of conducting Internet browsing and software management on local computers. My personal thought was a full read-only operating environment periodically verified with full checksum for its integrity, on which any software updates or new software installs are simply impossible / or new installs are allowed based on reputation scores of such software.
But seriously, are there any schemes or research out there that has been working on the topic of creating a managed secure environment for average consumers?
This is a very good thing! After all, a very definition of programmer is the bio-organic mechanism tasked with converting coffee to code. We will become the world of programmers!
Russian government already thought about it, and after long consultation with the industry techs and the government officials, instead of funding Wine they decided to fund Vodka.
A young scientist has an urgent job to finish, but disastrously the whole departmental network goes down apart from one ancient VAX. He hears there is an old-timer a few corridors away who still knows how to use the VAX, so he rushes down, bursts in, and insists that the old guy shows him what to do, because, you know, sorry, but this deadline is really important. “Calm down”, says the old guy, “what do you want to know ?”
“Well, ok, for instance, how do I edit a file ?”
” You type EDIT FILENAME”
“Right, fine, suppose I want to make a copy ?”
“You say COPY FILENAME1 FILENAME2
“Err, right, ok, now suppose I need to delete the file ?”
“You say DELETE FILENAME”
“Ah, right, right, err.. now what if I want to print it ?”
“You type PRINT FILENAME”
“But what if I just want to see it typed onscreen ?”
“You say TYPE FILENAME”
“What if I need to figure out what a command does ?”
“You say HELP COMMANDNAME”
“Ummm.. umm. suppose I want to create a new directory ?”
“You use CREATE/DIRECTORY”
“Ok, ok, but look – how the hell am I supposed to remember all that ?”
The first woman in space was Valentina Tereshkova. She flew on June 16th, 1963. That was two years after the first man flew into the space. On the other hand, the first American woman (Sally Ride, RIP) flew in 1982. Question: Why did it take NASA almost two decades to send the woman in space?
Anyone remember the "greatest Romanian bio-chemist", "Professor" Elena Ceauescu? Throughout the communist rule they squandered their intelligentsia, by making them immigrate in mass due to intellectual, economic, ethnic and religious repressions (for example Liviu Librescu, a brilliant Romanian scientist who was killed at VA Tech massacure). At the same time such illiterate trash as Ceauescu has been given educational degree for free, and her dissertation has been written for her! It has always been quietly known that all her degrees were a sham and that she was in reality illiterate? The current Romanian authorities simply follow the long tradition established by Nicolae Ceauescu.
RT is a Kremlin propaganda tool, extension of RIA-Novosti, part of ITAR-TAAS, specifically created by the Soviet government authorities back in 1930s (TAAS news agency) for discimination of the propaganda across the globe. It has always been vicously anti-American, even when reporting on a real problems in American society. There is practically no criticism against Kremlin or any politicians that are currently "in favor", however it and the rest of the TAAS news outlets (Pravda is the most known newspaper example), including the major TV stations are used as tools of punishment domestically in Russia and rallying forces hostile to the western governments internationally. It is known specifically for coverage of conspiracy theories and interviews with extremists.
I work for a government agency (not going to name the name), but there has been push for the last few years to put much of our processing and data storage in the public cloud. How stupid. This type of stuff normally comes from the upper management whom the vendors happen to entertain on golf courses and parties every now and then (just like the vendors push any product there.) But the cloud is different. Somehow the jackets from MS, Google, IBM, HP and Oracle have execs everywhere up to the upper echelons convinced that it will save money on IT budget. By tying ourselves up into the cloud, we are allowing for 1. potential leak of information through public storage and 2. potential denial of availability to the information when such storage and/or processing center(s) become unavailable due to network outage, disasters, national emergency, etc.
Maybe it's time to study Lamar Smith in detail for any kind of inappropriate behavior. Everyone is guilty of something.
Well, it is time for our stormtroopers to start the witch-hunt. After all, if we can't defeat our opponents through ideas, lobbying and courts, we can always persecute them using character assassination, right? Reminds me of a famous quote:
“The oppressed are allowed once every few years to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class are to represent and repress them.”

that can't happened because de Icaza said we can't have DRM.
OK, so what's wrong with loving the sinners but hating their sins?

Used to work for Hubble... These guys were running Solaris 10 on their main computer....
I think the problems have really begone to surface once the competition named 'CompUSA' was no longer present.
