Wrong...I have two co-workers, one with a VW TDI wagon, and one who had a Prius. The VW got at least 5MPG better on average then the Prius even though it was driven much harder, which led the Prius owner to get pissed and sell his. Given that the retail price of the VW is lower and studies have shown the VW has a lower TCO over the long term, it is no wonder that most buyers are ignoring hybrids now.
When hybrids were new, without any history of widespread ownership, nobody really knew if they were worth it or not. So since they sounded like a good idea and good for the environment, the flew off the lots. Now that people have been exposed to them for a while and all the dirt is coming out about their relatively un-impressive efficiency and collateral environmental impacts in manufacturing, they are loosing favor.
Weapons as a deterrent can be effective in a couple ways. I keep a pump shotgun at home partly because the sound of racking it's slide is quite distinctive. If I hear somebody mucking about in my house I can rack the slide on that shotgun and say "whos there". I doubt there is going to be anybody that would not know what that means. At that point, I have "screened" the target to a degree as somebody who is supposed to be there will identify themselves, an average burglar that isn't out to hurt me will have the opportunity to flee, and anybody else is almost certainly having violent intentions and deserves to be treated accordingly. Even still...basic rule: always identify your target.
TFA fails to mention why two people are required in the test vehicle. I can understand having a "driver" that can take over if something goes wrong, but what is the purpose of the 2nd person?
I don't like Apple, but I don't like IPv6 even more...it's a very bad solution to a problem that deserves the most elegant solution possible. So in this case the enemy of my enemy is my friend I guess.
OS != computer. The vast majority of those boxen made for XP can in fact run Win 7 or 8. Or linux as you say. And having to pay for the upgrade is not a valid argument against since I know much much the digital tuner upgrade cost for your old tv:)
"we"? Who is volunteering to survey the hobos? Or are you suggesting there are hobos on/.? I guess one of us could go try it out of scientific curiosity...
Judging by what I have seen in traditional phone booths, I don't think they will need to be able to access porn for that to be a problem. Usually phone booths I have tried to use have one or more of the following problems in order of likelihood: missing phone book, feces contamination, urine contamination, other bodily fluid contamination, missing/broken handset. Often, one could check the "all of the above" box. People have no respect in today's society.
The shady company I dealt with is called Paramount Solar. The others are just local companies. They won't mean anything to anyone outside my local area, especially the original poster who is 3000 miles away from me.
I agree wholeheartedly with this. Call at least 3 solar outfits and have them come out. Be sure to do a little research yourself before and after to see who is being straight with you. I selected 3, two of which came recommended by a local government solar promotion program. One of them I eventually told to eff off as they were dishonest about just about everything including structuring the contract to pocket some of the tax credit money while telling me the "laws had changed so I wouldn't get that much credit on the system". The 2nd one was honest about things, but wasn't interested in customizing their packages to do exactly what I wanted. The third was honest, answered all my questions, and even went out of their way to install the system in a way that would be both efficient and aesthetically pleasing...they got the contract and will be installing my system in May.
Here in Oregon and Washington we have been getting cold, wet, and generally somewhat unusual weather. There is 3" of snow at my house right now...it's spring and I live at 250ft elevation where it's unusual to get snow even in the winter (hint: it's spring now). So from my perspective, it's a trade off. Somebody else got 80 degrees while I got snow and ice. Thanks!
Simple. The 4th amendment says you are protected from "unreasonable" search. The legal system has long held that it is "reasonable" to be searched without a warrant at borders (and in fact within 100 miles of the border under certain circumstances) as anyone travelling across that border from abroad can be suspected of bringing contraband with them that is otherwise legal in other countries. Likewise, airport searches are allowed under the same "reasonableness" argument, though I think the standing is a little shaky there when it comes to domestic flights. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Border_search_exception and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution
Except a major advantage you are *supposed* to have in the cloud is geographical diversity. So if a major disaster strikes in one area and turns one massive data center into a smoking crater (worst case) or simply some boneheads deploy faulty code to all the cloud servers in one location (best case), then there are servers elsewhere that can take up the slack. If there is too much concentration of servers in one geographical location, and that location goes down, then effectively the cloud is down even though that should not really ever happen short of a global disaster.
I really don't care if it's DST or not, but leave it constant. People will adapt their schedules to whatever the timekeeping is. Switching throws off people and has I am sure has cost $trillions in lost productivity, IT worker's hours programming to account for it, and clocks that have to adjust since it's inception. Just stop the insanity! And if I had a time machine I would go back in time and kick Mr Franklin square in the nuts and then when he had recovered from that, kick him again until he agreed to never breathe a word of his bright idea to anyone, ever.
That is a very good point about Paul. He wouldn't have the political capitol to get most of his nutty ideas on the table. On the other hand, with the size of Obama's war chest, it's going to take a pretty strong candidate to win the final election. I could be wrong, but I just don't see that that many people willing to give their vote to Paul.
I'll bite since I do in fact plan to vote for Santorum at this point.
It's really very simple. They are all crooks I am almost certain, but Santorum seems to be the least devious of the available viable options. Romney and Gingrich bold faced liars and posers that only say what they think people want to hear so they can get power even if it directly contradicts their previous actions (especially Gingrich). Paul has some really good ideas, but also has some really bad ideas and just comes off too nutty to get enough votes to be "viable" in my view. Santorum is a likable persona and while I don't necessarily agree with all of his platform, he at least seems to be honest about what he stands for and isn't completely sold out (yet).
As with every election I can remember from the POTUS to congress to local state elected officials, it's the lesser of the evils. Truly honest people who are there to serve the betterment of the people don't participate in higher levels of government...they can't survive there.
Aye! This is neither news for nerds (I'm sure everyone, nerd or otherwise, has already seen the headlines), nor does it matter (a gaggle of politicians posturing over trivialities of the campaign process is about as un-meaningful as it gets). Wake me up when it's time to vote.
OK, I will admit this is kind of cool. But why not use real birds? Seems like it would be much easier then cobbling together all that hardware and software! By nature of what you are doing to them, I have no doubt they would be automatically angry. Setting up stuff for them to knock over would be the hardest part I think...
How about we keep contracts contracts and hold them to the contract you signed up under. If they want to do something else, then they can do that for new contracts, but the existing contracts have to stay intact until terminated. If they breach the contract with stuff like intentionally not delivering the service they are contractually bound to deliver, then you sue their pants off but the contract is breached and done with. No more of this insane "sign here but we can change it on you at any time just because we want to" shite.

I think if gravity was turned off, we would have bigger problems then a few melting nuke reactors.
Much like hookers, you can outlaw porn all you want but it tends to happen anyway. Too much demand for both.

I couldn't help but think of this with the mention of the big dog getting kicked... http://bootstrike.com/LaughterHell/Featured/kick12.php
No, I mean moose...as in the plural of moose. Meese is a rock band from Colorado.
Maybe there is a cross-marketing opportunity in there somewhere with that "People of Wal-Mart" site...?
So meta cops are moose?

Yeah, would probably need a whole panel of judges to be fair.
