  1. The only reason why the Switch did so well is the screen, Breath of the Wild, and Mario Odyssey. In terms of pure design, the 3DS was a far superior device. The 3DS's user interface was charming and rich. StreetPass was genius, and inspired me to carry around my 3DS for years. It was compatible with the previous generation games - having access to the huge DS library meant I was never at a loss for games to play. Virtual console was great. The clamshell case felt solid, unlike the Switch where I constantly feel like the joycons are going to snap off. My wish for the Switch Mini would be basically a 3DS XL an improved screen that can play Switch, 3DS, and DS games.

From the perspective of the new article, CDs would be considered lossless. What the article means by "lossy" is MP3 compression. Those new streaming services stream FLAC files (that I assume are ripped from CDs).

  3. Bitcoin? I don't understand the comparison. Anyway, a constant acceleration causes velocity to increase linearly, not exponentially as you suggest.

  4. If a craft could maintain an acceleration of 10 m/s^2, then it could obtain 10% of light speed in only 34 days. That is a pretty modest acceleration actually, much lower than even a car. I imagine that maintaining that acceleration for 34 days is still well outside of our technological capabilities, but it doesn't seem that far-fetched to me. *Derivation*: For constant acceleration, v = at. Set v = 0.1 * 3e8 m/s and set a = 10 m/s^2. Solve for t.

Even at Mach 1.4, it would still take about 3 hours to get from NY to Los Angeles.

  6. Who had the best promotional package? on Amazon Picks New York, Northern Virginia For HQ2 [Update: Confirmed] (washingtonpost.com) · · Score: 1

Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, or Atlanta would have met Amazon's criteria better, but I hypothesize the local governments in those cities are dysfunctional enough that they couldn't effectively market themselves to Amazon executives. It sounds like New York City and Crystal City actively worked to impress Amazon.
