It freaked us out though, and we're thinking of creating some secured storage in the empty space under the stairs.
First, the door would be difficult to see if you weren't looking for it. Then once you got in, everything of value would be securely locked down (think heavy bars bolted to concrete foundation) or in fire safes themselves so secured.
I'd really like to put the computer rack in there too, if I can figure out the long-distance SVGA problem--the idea of cheap laptops as dumb terminals had simply not occurred to me. So thanks to the three or four people up there who mentioned it.

2000 and XP have the RunAs service, which adds an extra option to the context menu when you right-click on an executable. This lets you run programs as another user--usually the administrator, but it could be anyone. You could create a special higher-privileged account for games and tell them to RunAs that account, or even just logout (or in XP, Fast User Switch) and log in to that account. It should be possible to give the account enough privs to run the game and still not be full administrator level.

As I am not intimately familiar with the terms under which Linux distributions include the GNU tools, under what conditions could the FSF require that GNU be part of the OS name? Or alternatively, under what conditions could a distribution maker remove the GNU tools or the GNU name from those tools?
If the FSF wants the OS to be known as GNU/Linux, perhaps the license under which the GNU tools are provided could include a clause stating such. If they have not and are merely suggesting this terminology, it can be ignored.

I installed TurboTax onto a clean Win2000 guest OS in VMWare. The only boot sector the activation routines got to touch was the one on the virtual drive. Oh, and after I installed TT (but before using it), I made a copy of the Win2000 guest OS file.
So if I wanted, hypothetically, I could copy that VMWare file to any other machine and run it from there.
I don't have any intention of copying or sharing the software. But it pisses me off that a) I had to take these measures to ensure the safety and stability of my real OS installation, and b) for all the possible danger to my machine if I'd installed it the normal way, it was trivial to circumvent.
    Good move guys.
