From where I sit (and play), ever since Quake 1, or perhaps back as far as doom 1, everybody else has been playing catch-up with Id. Most of the time falling short by a long shot. With a few notable exceptions.
After reading the article, it seems now that Id is playing a little catch up themselves.

Tellingly, the physics implementation seems to be quite young, suggesting it was 'bolted on' after the capabilities of the Source engine became apparent.
Admittedly this is the opinion of the author of the article, but interesting none the less.
Though from what I've seen, everyone else is still playing catchup on the graphic's front. But when you sit back and have a look at whats in store for the (hopefully) not too distant future, you can't help looking forward to finally sitting down and playing these games.
I'm making the assumption that you haven't already since you don't mention as much in your post. But why don't you ask for appropriate compensation? Why resort to leaving or invoking labour laws, why not schedule a meeting with your direct superior and discuss your concerns? If that doesn't acheive the desired result, schedule a meeting with the next management level above them. Once you've exausted all of those avenues, then that would be the time to consider taking the actions that you mentioned.
nVidia weren't resting on their laurels. It seems as if everybody has forgotten why nVidia is in the position they are in at the moment. While ATI was busy producing a superiour graphics card, nVidia was busy making the transition to the 0.13 micron fab process.
Taking absolutely nothing away from ATI, because they obviously have what sells graphics cards at the moment - arguably the fastest graphics card on the market.
nVidia need to come up with something to separate them from ATi - and fast.
I don't see ATI making demo's of semi naked imps;]
I think the fact that apple chose khtml over gecko speaks more to apples goals than it does the the comparitive quality of the two engines. Though I agree that mozilla's development focus should be more toward quality than 'quantity', I happily use mozilla, and it *works well* for me.
If your interested in games or not, both FlipCode.com and GameDev.net have alot of reference material for common algorithms.
They aren't exactly repositories as such, but there is alot of code snippets deposited in various sections throughout both sites.
Though I don't have children I would think that something like Robocode would be ideal. Considering that you can get almost instant feedback for the changes you make, and that it's a game, which if my niece is any indication, will consume any child above 2.5yrs to the point of tears when bedtime comes around.
I've noticed the same thing. And I think that probably has alot to do with the fact that regardless of how much someone else is talking, everone gets 'heard'. So instead of the loudest speaker dominating the discussion, all points/comments that are made get through.
So you get to 'hear' everyones views, no matter how obfuscated they are by abbreviations and l33t speak.
It's interesting to see science using the extremely accurate measurement of 'the width of a human hair' to convey the smallness of really-small-stuff. Human hair from where? My pubis is easily twice the thickness, perhaps more, of the hair that grows between the knuckles on my fingers.
Is there a standard somewhere that I'm unaware of that specifies the default width of a folicle?
Do I have a point? Sadly no. I'll be on my way now.
Could this be the beginning of the end for our dependence on oil?
I didn't have the time to read all the posts here, and I'm sure what I have to say has already been said...
That aside. Whats the benefit of changing our dependance from one natural resource, to another natural resource? I can't see how thats a good thing, perhaps in the short term. But in the long term it will just land us in the same situation we'll be finding ourselves in with oil in however many years worth the current experts tell us are left.
While it's great to find a new energy source, unless it's a renewable resource, Here's some links, then we really need to keep looking.
I guess you're one of those 8%'ers

This looked like it could be quite good a little while ago, and they seem to be coming along nicely. May be worth a look

One has to wonder how much of that 3 billion is attributed to lawyer fees.

Thats incredibly good advice.
What is it about the internet that makes people feel superior for finding an exception to every damn thing someone says?
So you already got the point. Yet you still invalidate your own point with your comment?
