Man... Why do people always get this the completely wrong way? The best way to get what you want and be in control, is to define reality! No. How do you think he became a leader? Simple: Because people get drawn into your reality, if you act like that. They start to respect you, because “Hmm, he does that so naturally... Meanwhile, here in the real world, everybody who distributes modern videos, does it in: Matroska container, AC3, Vorbis, AAC or MP3, perhaps subtitles, via torrents or just an (X)HTML <object> tag ((X)HTML5 in the future). (Before HD and 5.1 it used to be AVI.)
Both “sides”: Get down to the real world!
YouTube! Implement the most obvious thing: A HTML5 <video> tag, Matroska, H.264, and MP3/Vorbis/AC3 (depending on what the uploader chose). You can of course add Theora. But nearly nobody will care because it will look crappy when hitting the same size/bitrate limitation.
Firefox! Connect your <video> tag to ffmpeg plus libmatroska, and be done with it! They are open source, on every open source OS, on every OS that downloads movies from the net (so basically: everyone), and most importantly: Support aaalll the above formats, plus a ton more.
There. Easy peasy. Or do I really have to wait for a Russian cracker team to beat some sense into us and release a Firefox extension later??

Most young people here in Germany write more SMS than they talk minutes on the phone. (Usually the same price. Yep, this means calling would be cheaper, but... oh well. ^^)
And from what I heard, vending machines even work with SMS in the Nordic countries (e.g. Finland, Nokia’s home) for a looong time.
I know from around 2003, that in Danmark, they all just had ICQ or something on their phones, and texted trough that because it was cheapest.
I wonder what they all are up to, now that it’s 2010!
I always have to think, that it’s practically a sure thing, that we will see alien life forms doing their thing on their planet, in our lifetime.
With the current (as always exponential) rate of telescope development, we will get to a Google-maps-like resolution or even better. And meanwhile search as many of the previously in other ways detected planets an new planets for signs of life (e.g. non-natural structures and fast changes.)
Now if we narrow down to the right planets and spaces in the right solar systems, we will find life. Or what was once life. Maybe even life that is more advanced than ours.
Then it’s just a matter of setting up a video feed. Because I doubt that once life is found, anyone will dare to turn its eyes off of it for even a second, until we know very well what’s going on there.
