Solar panels are stupid right now. They require rare materials, are not very reliable, but very expensive. The solution for right now are arrays of cheap, easily replacable mirrors that heat a tube of water so that it can drive turbines. Simple, reliable, and very cheap. And yo only need to fill i tiny tiny amount of some very dead desert with them. I can't imagine anything beating that. You could build it right now even in the poorest regions of the world. Nearly out of trash.:) I agree with the rest of the first vision though.:)

But I don't think we need any technological advancement at all, to make this come true. Everything except for being able to buy those high-temperature superconductive power lines, and for the acceptable solar cells, already exists and is used right now. But we can simply use big traditional DC lines until then. And as I said, we don't need solar cells.
The only question remaining is: Why isn't it being done already? If I were a poor African state, (preferably with a desert) I'd put a big plant into that desert, and tell the oil and other industries, that they can go fuck themselves, because now I'm free! ^^ Then I'd start exporting energy and technology. Done right this would mean a boom for the whole country. Then add ubiquitous Internet access, and before you know it, you're surpassing India and are the no 1 country in Africa.

It's really strange. I myself are from the post-sexism generation. I am so far out of that old twist in mind, that I have problems to even imagine why anyone would add in a sexistic way. 1. Really really backwards cultures is some very religious areas of the world. (No matter what religion.) 2. Feminazis (no offense, because I've seen them call themselves with names like that) who hate all and everything about men, because they were very mistreated by some male asshole(s).
Whoever thinks that women would be treated bad in IT/FOSS culture, obviously has never seen how one women in a IT team can make all the men there their slaves who want to fulfill her every wish. If anything, then men would love to see more women in their teams.
The problem is, that those feminazis think, that all women *want* to become construction and steel workers, mathematicians, programmers and physicists, etc. While in reality, nearly all women couldn't care less about those kinds of jobs. Sure there are exceptions, and that's nice. But exceptions prove the rule. I mean it's as if some extremist men would complain that we want to do more of those jobs that women like to do. But actually we don't. Both genders have different interests, different talents, different things they love.

Including male ideals. But in reality, nothing of what women like is any "lower" that what we like. Especially when we don't like it.
I guess we should help our wives get some self-esteem for their own values. Then the whole sexism stuff will vanish from the front pages, and only in corner areas will you see the female sexist view or the male sexist view, as a natural part of the Gaussian curve.

Just an idea, but just to pass some time, there's noting that is much better than the Flash games at Kongregate. (Of course there are other good sites, but I like the achievements that you can win, and that you can pay little tips to the developers and even befriend them.) I realize that this aren't Linux games per se. But they do the job really well.
Besides: Those little "in-between" games are by far the most played. Why do you think the Wii and its games are the way they are, and are the only ones raking in big profits?:) Games got too big, too "epic", expect too much commitment nowadays. You could still play Doom 1 or GTA 1 in your breaks, but you can't possibly play GTA 4 that way.
