If you RTA, you would have understood that they are not giving email addresses out. The list is an email list sent to the lawyers by the sheriff. The lawyers then send junk mail via SNAIL mail.
To follow up on the gov't and the responsible thing to do, you see bans happening more and more now because of the new picture phones - they don't want confidential information leaving, which certainly makes sense. No longer do people have 'just cell-phones', they have more and more gadgets with it now, which may jeopardize businesses.
I'm not sure who offers them, but most of the CC companies in the US do. I know Citibank does. What happens is you download a small app that is installed on your computer. If you choose for the program to monitor for CC input boxes, it runs automatically when it senses them(you have to log in and everything). You can also run the program manually if you wanted to use a virtual number over the phone or something. It creates a virtual number/expiration date/3 digit verification that can only be charged to once, and it knows to charge the expense to your normal CC number when it gets processed.
I would also suggest to your friends and relatives that any purchase they make should be under a secure server, meaning the URL starts off https:// instead of http://
But the fact is that you sign a service agreement with the company. My favorite solution is signing up for things online and using a credit card that offers virtual numbers - the ones that can only be used once. I have found that this works pretty well and that I kept receiving emails from the companies saying the credit card failed when they tried to charge it and if I didn't update my information, the service would be cancelled - which is what I wanted.
They didn't do that in Bruce Almighty....one of the times Jim Carrey was beeped contained a real phone number. A person in England was also bombarded with calls.
I think what all this comes down to is a loss of common sense in America. As Americans, most have the mentality of 'it has to be someone else's fault'. A lady spills hot coffee on her lap while driving and talking on a cell phone and sues because the coffee is too hot. Where was the common sense in 1. the coffee would be hot, 2. I am driving and talking on a cell phone, lets put the hot (styrofoam) cup between my legs? There was none, I can pitcure her to her lawyer (or her lawyer saying her to say this) "it must be McD's fault that I had it between my legs, was driving and on a cell phone. Plus, I don't expect hot coffee from them."
Getting back to the topic...you have the Hatians and State of Confusion.....err...Florida complaining about this. IT'S A FRIGGIN GAME. If you don't have the common sense to know that, then don't play it. Personally, I never even really noticed that line until they made a big deal out of it. I never related that line to a whole group of people - no one with common sense would. However, in our common senseless society (in conjunction with the politically correct attitude), people don't think anymore, they do what they are told/fed to do and feel. I think this point is proven with the fact they waited so long. As said on previous posts, if they are really offended, then why wait so long to complian? Well, perhaps it's because they are being told what to think/say/feel by the vultures.
Yes - I am having a bad day and needed to rant because I am starting to get sick of all this...time for judicial (and society) reformation
People need to start thinking for themselves and use common sense - their brains and society will thank them!
IANAL, but I believe so...
I am not sure, but AT&T would still have headquarters in the US, plus they do significant business in the US, so they have to abide by the rules. Kind of like the long-arm laws the states and citizens use to sue other businesses in other states (as long as there is significant business done in the state, you can sue another business from a different state in your state)
In this case, do you think they would use AT&T lines and rates and run themselves into bankruptcy? It would be funny if they used 10-10-220 or MCI All Distance to keep costs down!
I got an email supposedly from Citibank (in my Spam folder nonetheless) supposedly saying they were confirming email addresses and needed you to go to Citibank.com (although they had a different address on it) and put BOTH your account number (ATM) and your PIN. The sad part is, as I was reading it, I actually was not sure if my parents or grandparents would know better (they don't think people are actually out there that would do this). I decided to call my parents to be on the safe side and warn them about these things. Luckily, they had common sense. The funniest part of the whole situation is that I received the same message twice, in my Spam folder, but yet the email address it was sent to isn't even the one I use for Citibank.
I am just wondering how many people actually do this - I mean, are there actually people out there that would put in there account number and PIN number?!? Common sense tells you...oh wait, we are talking about the general public here, the public doesn't have it!

Actually, I believe it's Cox Cable that's making such a big fuss about ESPN. Look here

They couldn't reach him - they didn't use 10-10-220!
That's because you didn't give your name, address, and phone number before you tried searching!
