This is all PR so TW cable subs don't continue to flee to satellite.

What the network and progrmmers do not understand is clutter. The more ads you show me the less effective each ad is. Someday the advertisers will get this.
UNFORTUNATELY, the clients in Windows and Mac OS aren't ideal. They share two problems: First, they may not synchronize often enough.
That Coursey sure is a whinner and clearly he does little research. I took me 15 seconnds to find this at Google.
To control the number of seconds to wait between attempts to synchronize the system clock to an time source on the Internet using the following Windows XP...
"the company made us promise not to talk about the new OS until near year-end."
So Coursey admits that he sits on stories to get access to Microsoft. That's some journalistic integrity. Now he is crying that Levy broke the story before he did. Cry baby.
According to MS's latest financials it takes them about 27 days (they earned 27.5 million per day last quarter) to make 750 million in operating profit.
750 million on China, 1 billion on the XBox, 2 billion on XBox live...its all peanuts.
If the read the daily trial transcripts (which you can read here), You get the sense that the judge has been leaning towards MS, despite press reports.
It is pretty clear that the states are only representing Sun ('Make MS use Java'), Novell ('Make Windows work with NDS'), Red Hat ('Make MS give us the Office source code'), et al, and don't give one whit about the public interest. The judge has picked up on this and kept telling the states to stop bringing up 'new' transgression and tell her how the states' changes serve the public interest. The states continued to ignore her at their own peril.
Even if AOL uses Mozilla under the covers, how many AOL users are even going to know that they are using the Mozilla http rendering engine? AOL slaps its own UI chock full of ads, pop ups, and in house email.
Mozilla will be wasted on AOL. It is much better suited for the non-Windows world.
The author ignores the fact that in house games bring profit margins of 50-70%, that's $25-$35 per game. 2-3 in-house games per box (like Halo which has sold over a million) covers the loss on the box in no time.
BTW, don't the prices of these Xbox components drop every month? What does a 10 GB hard drive and a 2 year old graphics chip go for wholesale, today and 6 months from now?
I don't know who RedMercury is, but the profit margins on games are 50-70% for inhouse titles.
The $5-10 figure are royalties that MS gets on third party games. Since MS was packaging them, MS would also be getting the some of retailers cuts on this sale (about $10-$15).
That's why these packs always had at least 1 inhouse title.
Most of those early adapters bought XBox 'packs' (action pack, all star pack, adrenaline pack, etc...) that had 2-3 games included. With the huge profit margins on games, this probably helped MS sell those packs at close to cost.

Windows XP Media Center Edition,

Chrylser tried this buzz thing by stocking PT Cruisers at rental car locations in hip parts of Miami.

Clutter rises, even in weak ad economy. Study: Nearly 1 in 4 primetime minutes in 2001
One box acts as the broadband gateway and it servers up to three TVs. Not sure if it also doe the telephony, but it probably could.

With Java, one language can create a program that runs on many platforms.
With dotNet, many languages can create a program that runs on one platform.
So what happens if MS decides to create a CLR for other platforms. Than you have many languages that can run on many platforms.

The company is betting the service will save its Xbox video-game system...
They sold 3.5 million of these things in 6 months and it needs to be saved? Compare this to TiVo which has 300,000 customers in 2 years of selling.
