all you do is have a option under preferences ala napster that says your bandwidth type ie. 56k/cable/dsl/t1/t3/etc then whenever you connect to another T1 have it make a strong connection between the two of you. Its network matchmaking. To prevent people from specifying a lower bandwidth than you have, have the program limit your download bandwith to that specific speed which should keep people honest while helping to better organize the network.

I remember kids on acid, etc, it was just a way for them to waste their time. There used to be a teacher at redondo high named Carolyn Murphy who understood the dilemma of the geek stereotype and fought the administration constantly about it. Unfortunetly she died a few years ago. If anything she needed to be held up as an example of how a teacher should be and encourage individuality amongst its students. The truth is is that educational institutions including redondo high are corrupt with all the money getting sucked into the administration. All those teachers fighting for more money inevitably goes back to the administration. Thats the problem with addiction to federal money. The best way to destroy this would be to allow competition between schools by allowing any person to go to any school they choose. a revolution in education would occur.

I went to redondo high their rival school (who gives laptops to their students for the duration of their stay or shall i say imprisonment). The whole point of napster was free music. If they try to charge you'd have like five total people left in the userbase and everyone else will have switched over to opennap servers in scandinavia. If they try to pull another lockout like metallica and dr dre and disable the clients of nonsubscribers just watch how fast they port gnapster over to windows which is far superior. Shawn, you had a killer idea (remember me? used to chat w/you about coding in vc++/win api?) but it was your first real project and the coding wasnt the greatest. You'll go down in history for this though.
I setup X10 to startup and shutdown my coffee pot every morning. I load it up before i go to bed and it turns on the mr coffee every morning and shuts it off 45 minutes later. I put a small description of how i did it at http://www.cixel.com/
They SHOULD make it illegal, keeping things legal dilutes the pool of intelligent people working on it. Just think of how much technology gets done by small groups of people working on it than larger groups? Huge amounts of progress come from small groups of 5 people working on a project at a time, any more and you begin to lose efficencies. Besides keeping it underground draws people to something like a magnet. There should be whole websites on reverse engineering of devices like tivo, ipaq, etc. The more digital this world gets the more i love it because the more hackable it is. And from some of the posts ive seen i agree with such as id software utilizing the reverse engineering talent of the people on the net (or bbs's at the time) to make doom one of the most popular games of all time. Why dont other companies get a clue?
I agree, if you dont you'll get used and used until theres nothing left and you die of cancer from stress. Dont go after empty promises of stock options and such, take the money upfront. Promises are just carrots to keep you working, its like religion (youll get your rewards after you die!). I need to take my own advice.
Don't these people get it? The more you ban something the more people desire it. I forsee elaborate warez channels funneling this stuff around universities, etc. Why is it they figure banning something will stop it?

Stupld bltch, claiming credit! You ba5tards fought technology for years now technology is coming back to take a bite out of your a$s. You have absolutely nothing to do with this revolution and if it were up to you it would have never happened. A new form of socialism is growing out of capitalism, its starting with intellectual property and then proceed to eat real property as 3d printers are put into place, everything is becoming code and therefore copyable ENDLESSLY, genetics and nanotech will convert everything to software.
