  1. Safety? on Cell-Phone Wars · · Score: 2, Insightful

One of the great advantages of Cell Phones is the ability to call for help in the case of an emergency. I can't really understand the justification for interfereing with this function because you want to have your coffee in silence. It seems a little reactionary, libraries are meant to be quiet, not cafes and restaurants.

  2. Cannon Rebel Ti on Best 35mm SLR Camera for Beginners? · · Score: 1

I bought a Cannon Rebel Ti last year and have been very impressed with it. I do a lot of travelling and I've found that it is light enough to truck around, yet sturdy enough to take some mild knocks. Using the stock lens that comes with it (with an AF/MF switch) it is possible to use it either as a point-and-shoot type for snapshots, or to take advantage of the full range of features like any other SLR. It misses out on some more advanced features like "eye-focus" but takes the full range of cannon lanses. I can't remember exactly how much I paid, but it was in the $300 range with a decent lens. I think it's definitly a good choice for beginners, but you won't outgrow it too fast either. Try B&H Audio Video or Henry's.

My mistake, I only quoted the article as saying it is a terrorist group to make my point. whether it is or not, I am not one to pass judgement as I am not familiar with thier actions. However, I do believe that terrorist groups should be classified as follows:

If a militant organization targets civilians directly (although maybe not exclusively), it is a terrorist group.

If a militant organization targets govt installations/other military, thats fair game. In this situation, although we may not like them, they are just another 'army', not terrorists.

By this, FARC may or may not be a terrorist group. I'm not going to say, i'll leave it up to you people.

We are either blamed for not doing enough...or for doing too much(supporting Israel, etc.) The United States never has and never will support any country that it does not have a vested interest in. Why does it support Israel..yep...oil. An outlet to the sea, and an inlet to the vast oilfields of the middle east. However, the U.S. cannot make a decisive move with israel for fear of losing its current oil supply. As for the palestinians, they do not want peace. One leader of a middle eastern country was quoted as saying: "the only people we hate more than the jews are the palestinians". If peace were to come, and palestine be established as an autonomous democracy, this would be the death knell to the current way of life in many middle eastern countries. Voting? Women Voting? Women working? free speech? freedom of religion? not likely. Arab factions are making sure peace does not come about for fear that if it did they would suddenly be in the spotlight for thier human rights abuses. abuses, by the way, that the US overlooks in it's need for oil. So let's be realistic, the U.S. does not do very much at all, except set things in motion and then move in for the looting after the dirty work is done. They very obviously have it within thier power to establish Palestine as a democracy, but don't. Instead choosing to continue to trade with the very factions causing the problem, and prolong the violence. What the white christian junta in washington really want is for the jews and arabs to go to war, and then they will side with the victors.

These Have been around for years in other countries. There is one in the Hauptbanhof (main station) in Zurich. No one there really seems to give it a second thought. It only comes to mind if you need something at 3am, when most shops (in that city) are long closed up. In the US, considering the abundance of 24 hour kwik-e-markts, its probably just a target for vandalism.

  10. Re:Mockery of Christ on Australia Oppresses Jedi · · Score: 1

Not Quite. When people choose a religion other than the one you believe in, it is hardly making a mockery of yours. And, if you believe that, are all the jewish and islamic followers out there also mocking your religion? Why do people choose religions..start with that. with christianity, it is obviously because they believe in the teachings and words of jesus christ, in islam, mohammed, in judaisim, the god of abraham. if the form asks for your preferred religion, and you say 'jedi' because you believe that the virtues espoused by this order appeal to you most directly, how is that different than saying any other religion? Real problems arise when people dont show respect for one another's choices. By saying others are mocking you because they dont agree seems very hypocritical, just imagine the situation if you were not in the majority. Be a real christian, show some love for all, and show some respect for other people's choices.

  11. Re:Be careful! on How Dangerous is Online Chat for Kids? · · Score: 2, Insightful

I agree, the problem must be treated, not the symptom. However, the problem is that in America, anyone under the age of 21 is treated like an infant. If kids were given the freedom to explore and immerse themselves in the rest of the world at ages 12 and 13, they probably would have enough judgement NOT to get into harmful situations. Another post mentioned that he would not allow his kids to run free in the public library for fear of finding 'horrific' things. Sorry, but this isnt disney land, the world does have some weird shit to tout, the sooner people come to terms with this and stop hiding behind oppressive legislation that does nothing to solve the problem, the better. Botton line: let your kids chat, but tell them that there are real dangers out there, educate them, then trust them enough to make an informed decision. Most kids aren't half as dumb as people make them out to be.
