I haven't seen all of the Dr. Who episode, but so far they've mentioned Professor Chronotis at St. Cedd's College, Cambridge. The Professor is a main character in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (the first DG novel), and he resides at the College (which is fictional btw). The book was published in 1987 and set at a similar time, so 8 years after this script was written.
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
was written by Douglas Adams. It is more or less the same plot as Shada (also written by Adams) which is why Chronotis is also in the book. It's the same story. (And a good book - I would recommend it).
Sure it's funny to imagine that these spammers are themselves getting deluged with spam. But what happens if some nutcase firebombs their house, abducts their children, or murders their wife, as a direct result of seeing of the spammers' "outing" ?
Then I'd buy the perpetrators a drink while dancing on the spammers grave.
Anyone have any other ideas on how you would have gone about sharing these MS-Access databases?
The easy way to share access databases (if you really HAVE to use access - I'd strongly recommend a proper database server such as MySQL or if you can afford the licenses, MSSQL) is to share the database via ODBC. Bear in mind that when sharing Access in this fashion, the MS JET DB engine has a nasty habit of corrupting the database once you hit so many simultaneous users.
The really cool feature Apple introduced with Shake 3 is automatic clustering with Rendezvous.
But does it actually work though? A lot of Apple (particularly network I've noticed) stuff looks great in black and white but simply screws up all the time in practice. ARD and Mac Manager for example.
Actually it's very like Star Trek. If you have the Technical Manual for the Enterprise D there is a section detailing the user interface terminals to the computer (i.e. the touch panels in TNG / DS9 / Voyager etc). Biofeedback is provided with sound that is generated by a layer of the display matrix.
For touchscreen feedback applications it will be superb.
According to my contract, the company can only modify equipment which they own. The question: have they broken the UK's Computer Misuse Act? Should they be liable for damages caused?"
Yes and yes assuming that you can prove it.
Of course the big question is why can't you simply patch it to the prior version?
Many years ago on a programming course we visited Belgium with a project based on travel and tourism - the thing was a database for booking holidays etc.
I remember the conversation from my lecturers:
Them: "Come up with the name - you're good at stuff like that."
Me: "Uh.. oookkk... how about Computer Literacy and Information Technology Organisational Relational Information System?"
Okay, the operation was a success, but say it wasn't. The first question that's going to be asked is, "and you decided to perform the operation from beside your swimming pool watching it on your 14" TFT why?"
...no doubt asked by a manager of some description working form home beside THEIR pool...
The Phase 2 request for proposals just appeared and the estimated price is $26 billion through fiscal year 2009. The fact that the Army is spending billions of dollars on a project isn't anything new, but a little known fact is that the OS for FCS will be Linux
I bet they literally wouldn't be able to afford to use M$ alternatives - just think the same project could easily cost $26 billion a year for M$ licences alone given the number of users! You can just bet that M$ will class robots as users too in their license agreements.
You must have heard the stories of M$ people insisting on visiting people switching to other OS's and making them offers they cant refuse - Im reminded of the Monty Python sketch where the mafia threaten the army - "nice tanks you have out there - shame if anything were to appen to them - know what I mean?...
particularly from spammers operating in California
...but does that mean that the spammers reside physically in Cali, have registered businesses in Cali, advertise businesses or services that are based in Cali, or that they use relay servers in Cali?
They have every IP you have ever used while you have been using Windows Update which when you think about it, and the P2P things going on right now, makes it quite an invasive tracking system.
The other thing is, if the P2P opposers get their way and world+dog get to ask your ISP for your name and address from your IP address, then will MS suddenly not (legally) be able to track your IP or will they just alter their license agreement to something like "We'll do whatever the **** we like. Deal with it."
I need to use Windows for CubaseVST/32. Oh wait - that will run on my Mac. Games - yes - Neocron is what I use my PC for now...
Remember the little "No information is being sent to Microsoft at this time...."
The more astute amongst you may have noticed that the "No information" message has not been there since Win2kSP3 came out.
Now it says this:
Windows Update is committed to protecting your privacy. To provide you with the appropriate list of updates, Windows Update must collect a certain amount of configuration information from your computer. None of this configuration information can be used to identify you.
Which essentially means that so long as they don't take an email address or phone number they can take what they want.
Not quite the same
Last time I checked "more or less the same" == "Not quite the same".
My original statement stands.

Does anyone know of any resources on the topic?
Yes, it's called Google.
I think I speak for most of the guys here when I say that we have been searching for women in CS for YEARS.
There arn't any. Give up.

Mac Manager is not Apple Software.
Um, since when?

No you dont. Move along. Nothing to see here.
Villain Supply
I think voice control has a LONG way to go though - imagine the scene with present technology:
"Computer! Inspect the warp core."
"Acknowledged. Ejecting Warp Core"
"Nooooooo!"

Perhaps, something similar to the OEX recorder will be integrated into the other Shuttles, since it looks like a data recorder can survive re-entry.
Why dont they simply make aircraft out of the same material that they make flight recorders out of?
Just when I thought cheating in Unreal Tournament couldn't get any worse, someone makes a keyboard to attach all those cheat scripts to.

Me: "Now there's just this one drawback..."
I just couldnt help myself one commercemas - I wrote a game (as you do) and based it on the whack-a-mole concept but using photos of staff.
The name sort of just popped into my head...
I would think the most likely candidate would be to build-in verification of the sender, and bring about the end of anonymous email.
Or perhaps allow the user to choose whether to accept anonymous email or not; that way everybody is happy.
What I want to know is...
[AOL]
Me too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![/AOL]

They have my ip, I'd say that's enough.
It's worse than that though isn't it?

The differences between Windows 98 and Windows ME were just pointless.
They were not pointless! The extra crashes and idiotic problems present in ME provide more encouragement to upgrade to XP.
