IETF vs. ICANN
·
· Score: 1
Up for bids is a personal DNS server -- a one of a kind application, even though every Linux box that exists is capable of performing this function.
The product that for which you are bidding is the DNS server for such inventive domains as suckmeicann.com, myboxrules.net, and even the speculative irunmyowndnsyoumotherfuckers.org.
Oh well, trust the media to explode this non-issue into Gatesian proportions.
I'd rather have my child viewing a video of a tired and overworked "actress" frantically rubbing her clit so that she can time her orgasm with the faceless male behind her than the dreadful alternative -- mass media.
Oh no! She might begin to form her own opinions -- and they just might be different from what the United $tate$ wants.
Fuck 'em! "Somehow" the paper is accidentally diseminated via a popular Geek website or mirrors thereof. Then the entire question becomes null and void.
Any takers on mirroring this paper? Where can I download it?
Rebellion is not only expected from true patiots in todays political climate, it is expected.
The majority of the world runs with IPv4 which is well suited to control by a few institutions.
Such a limited namespace as provided by IPv4 allows control of the few domains (.com,.org,.net, etc.) to be easily controlled by one company, Verisign.
With the greatly expanded namespace provided by IPv6 (2^128 IP addressse, IIRC) the door is opened for the Ideal Solution. My Ideal Solution is to have a lookup file (propagated across all routeters, of course) which will connect any alphanumeric string with the IPv6 internet address for which it will be an identifier.
The lookup file will be infinitely expandable (by certain parties, no scr1pt k1dd13z registering names) so that any IPv6 address can be given any identifier. Just think, you could register your ice maker as joe.palotnik.frigidair.ice.maker.
You could enter "joe palotnik ice" into Google (don't U use it?) and find the listing for joe.palotnik.frigidaire.ice.maker. Then you could click on the link, enter your authorization, and read about how your ice maker is functioning.
Any attempt to implement copy protection, either through software or hardware, will immediately have the intelligence and knowledge of the worldwide Geek Collective brought to bear upon its undoing.
Don't fight this movement at all!
Don't let Hollywood know that cracks/hardware gizmos exist that would render their "proprietary/invincible copy-protection" as naked as a two-bit whore. Remember, how long did it take before DVDs were cracked?
These are words and only that. Words to placate the share holders into believing that intellectual "property" is controlled.
And I also don't like the fact that Walmart buys things in major bulk so it can shut down all the small mom&pop stores by undercutting their prices. Once again, the difference between OSS and Walmart is that Walmart is doing it to compete for customers and gain $$$.
Quite frankly -- Who gives a rat's ass about mom -n- pop stores??!
We're living in the Digital Age and if mom-n-pops can't compete with Walmart by providing the same merchandise at cheaper prices, they will die out. As they should. Go back and review your Economy 101 notes. It's all about satisfying your customers.
No, I'm not a troll -- Linux is undeniably a better OS than Windows but you have to remember something:
Windows has the largest pool of widely-used software of any OS on the planet.
Yes, Apache will beat MS Exchange into a bloody pulp, but this fight has evolved past Application A vs. Application B.
The future is about collaboration and the majority of tools which perform collaborative tasks (read "Lotus Notes") are usually coded for the Windows platform, where the best version exists (read Netscape). It's great that tools such as VMware exist (needs speed improvements) but they are costly. Flex86 (the Bochs descendant) is better but hasn't run anything substantial yet.
These tools need to be improved so that they can run Windows applications flawlessly.
When that day is reached, Bill G. will be preaching to an empty choir.
My deciding factor in choosing a browser is the ability to access all of my web site bookmarks at once. Netscape stores all of it's bookmarks in one file, "bookmarks.html" (Linux) which you can easily copy and trade with friends. Not so with Explorer which actually creates a miniature file system to emplement bookmark storage. (Creating these hundreds of folders which can NEVER be accurately converted to an.html file.
Which browser is more compliant with standards: Internet Explorer
Which browser stores its bookmarks more convientantly: Netscape
Which do I use: IE on the complicated sites (like www.imaginers.com/iw/ which Netscape won't fully render) and Netscape for the majority of my browsing.
Voting has almost no effect on the local level and much less on the national.
The elite scum that secretly rule our planet from the comfort of their corporate boardrooms have already decided who will be the "leader" of America. ("Leader" equals "he who will be laughed at".)
We are all powerless to change our society and those who might are often killed. Look what happened to Jesus and then to JFK. Do we have cold fusion-powered cars yet? See, case closed.
The CIA tried to kill Khadafy using a plan they've used before to kill world leaders -- but he wouldn't come to Dallas, TX. -- Bill Hicks
This was a very good essay with an accurate topic. I have never seen anywhere a significant amount of project planning with regard to the Linux kernel. Linus T's additions have been of the nature of "That's kewl! Let me add it." or such.
A web site should exist wherein the entire Linux collective can agree on what features need to be added to the Linux kernel, much as the KDE project does.
Resistance is not only futile, it is three syllables.
A point which is sadly overlooked by today's political constuents is that of communication. The internet promotes global understanding by providing access to anyone with a computer.
It is as easy to place an internet phone call to a chat-buddy in China as it is to dial your neighbor across the street. Using e-mail, you can exchange ideas with friends that are scattered across the face of our planet.
One result of this easy exchange of ideas is globalization and maturing of each generation. As people become more and more aware of events affecting countries on the other side of the world, they become aware of the interdependence of life.
Another side effect of this process is that as awareness rises of differing opinions concerning any issue, people are less easily swayed in the decision-making process by those with obvious agendas and they instead base decisions on what is believed to be productive for the section of society in which that individual is located.
People will be less swayed by a staunch-gun toting-antiabortionist if they are also aware of the other positions available to them. As awareness of issues increases, so does the ability to form well-thought, productive opinions.

The Electric Power Monopolies that exist in our society will never allow something like this to be sold on the open market.
People generating their own power and even selling the excess back to the power company. We can't have that happen. It would affect our bottom line too much.
The Reader must imagine a dark, smoke-filled room with mysterious figures in conference for this metaphor to be fully effective.
Programs don't care if CORBA/KParts/GnomeFingers/etcParts are used!!!
Interfaces Count
I can make any two programs communicate effectively and effeciently if I am given the interface used by each program. Screw CORBA or KORBA (that should've been the name used!) or KParts. Give me the interface declarations!
Any information can be forwarded to my e-mail address.
Thanks!
See Title.

Yoga, with it's emphasis on spinal health is a far better remedy that has wider ranging benefits than simply relieving your aching back.
Increased flexibility, increased youthfulness, and generally increased health are all things that America needs.

So that's what's been happening with that over-unity excess energy thing -- batteries!

OK, Bill turns "touchy-feely" and wants hugs and understanding with the Japanese. He is fascinated with non-techy things about their culture.
Big whoop. Call me when you have something to say.

Remember the "look-and-feel" case where Apple bitched at Microsoft for "borrowing" elements of the MacOS?
Did anything productive come about because of it? Will anything happen here? Can Apple do anything if someone refuses them?
All three questions have the same answer -- a resounding NO. Apple is behaving like a bully and attempting intimidation via empty threats.
The genie is out of the bottle.
It's late and I can't easily form cogent arguments.
Fuck religious/moral screwballs and grow my evil twin!
Someone find these pages and mirror them.

I've had very good performance with mine. Tell all your typing friends!

There is no need to spend $1000 dollars on a chair to provide superior lower-back support.
Buy a kneeling chair from Office Organix or your local Staples, Office Depot, or Office Max.
Wake up, smell the coffee, and see the choices!

Remember, this device could change life as we know it. (Electric cars would upset the balance of oil demand, etc.)
Therefore this technology will be suppressed and nothing will ever come of it. Of course I hope I'm wrong, but look at our record ever since JFK!
