  1. Apple Might (Not) Be Awakening on Darwin on Crusoe? · · Score: 0
Apple Computer Corp. has such a history of screwups, bad decisions, bad marketing, etc. et. al. that I have written them off.

I just read this morning how they chose not to give or even sell (at street price) iMacs to freeiMac. The company FreeiMac would give away free iMac computers with the usual 3 years of Earthlink subscription plus accepting advertising.

Talk about clueless! They have turned down another opportunity to increase the awareness and use of their computers. They already have an ever decreasing share of the market and decisions like this will only help seal their doom.

Jobs is an insane, megalomanial leader of a corporation led by more fools. Not that Apple doesn't do good things -- the Macintosh is an incredible computer and I loved mine. But I bowed to economics and bought a less expensive PC (I prefer Linux or BeOS, thank you).

This possible move to the Crusoe processor may be the sign of intelligence: Emulating the G4 in a cheaper and less power-hungry processor == Less expensive G4 == Cheaper Macs == More consumers buying your expensive hardware.

I suggest you use FreeDSL.com to get some higher speed access to the net. (www.freedsl.com) They're similar to AllAdvantage in how they work, but if you have a 19" monitor you can easily forget those ****ing banner ads.

This will not be a sudden or violent revolution, but rather a quiet and constant one.

The MPA (Motion Picture Association) is an American organization that
has trouble with the fact that the DVD "code" mechanism has been broken.
They still don't realize some facts of life.

When recordable cassette decks became common, they were feared as a
means of breaking the back of the music industry -- one person would
buy an album, and then distribute copies.

    This happened with videotapes.

    With CDs.

    Will happen with DVDs.
(Just buy a Phillips DVD recorder and make bit-wise copies of a DVD for an
    exact copy.)

The majority of people (the market) will still buy original copies.
This is not a theory or hypothesis but a simple truth. It is easier
for a person to go to the local MediaShop to buy a movie, or music, or
anything else than to find Joe "Jon Johansen" Hacker to burn them a copy
    of Titanic.

Sure some people copy their work and distribute the copies. There is always
going to be a "grey" (I think chartreuse, but that's me) area surrounding
the profit zone. Grow up and live with it.

Focus on the profitable area and be satisfied with it.

If someone, somewhere does something in a program, all I need to do is think about the problem -- eventually I'll have a solution and there is a good chance it will be similar to the original method. Do I need to pay licensing fees? Bullshit.

Open source programming creates more robust software and is more responsive to consumer need. If a company based it's programming policy on OS, it will produce the software the computing-public needs.
