If you really want a trouble free setup, I recommend using some sort of hardware VPN. Firewall/VPN boxes can be purchased for less than $400 and are great (Juniper Netscreens, Sonicwall, Watchgaurd). If setup correctly, the boxes will almost never fail. You can also use the firewalls/vpns in a situation where the client networks have dynamic routable IP's. This assumes that your office has a static.
This approch can even be taken to the open source "fanboys" Just download a firewall distro like smoothwall. Install on cheap whitebox.
Hardware is so much easier to maintain then maintaining each client and dealing with "some sort of NAT box"
I hope google wins this bidding process. (I have to use M$ for work) If AOL is the devil that I believe they are, imagine the pain it would cause when all of the AOL software is bundled into the OS. This could end up being an issue large enough to cause people to jump off the Microsoft Ship.
So, the article may not have been that great but it did get me thinking, what is wrong with teaching people this? I think i am going to set up a class at our office and teach people this stuff. At least that way when I say you can't email a 50 Meg attachment, they will not give me that glazed over look. Has anyone tried this? Did it help?
I have emailed Google many time about this. I would love to move my domain to them. I would even pay for this. I have never recieved a response. I hope they do this someday.
