We've been able to monitor our citizens long enough for it not to be an issue. Why this continually surprises people in our country is beyond me.

What should anger you is now we're able to do it without judicial oversight. That's the primary difference between the "patriot" act and similar legislation in our past (i.e. FISA in 1978ish). Remember, no matter how much we love privacy, it's an entirely "made up" right enforced solely by the courts.. Remove that pesky judicial branch and viola!

I only mention this becuase I think we're fighting the wrong fight. We'll never get rid of the patriot act or big brother oversight. The fight we can probably win, is the fight to put judicial oversight back into its priority seating..

Checks and balances baby, checks and balances.

In this country, it just so happens that these types of activities are best left to private enterprise. We don't trust our government doing these things here, why should we there?

It's not too bad, basically SuSE as you've read before. My wheel mouse didn't work out of the box, and sound stuff didn't start automatically -- both of which would be really annoying to the common user.

The interface is gorgeous though, and sun studio isn't a bad alternative to eclipse. Why they include netbeans and studio is beyond me though, they're the same thing as far as I can tell. And I can't type "javac" directly from my home directory, which I'd imagine the average user would need to be able to do without changing anything

I'd like to see more of a sun supported community for JDS. I can't even find user forums or anything of the like to discuss the pitfalls I've found, etc. Hard to build a desktop user base if they are only going to marginally own up to it existing in the first place. I feel like I'm the only person in the world using it. Maybe it's just too early...

Oh and, people are bringing laptops to class these days, at least here at UCF in the upper level courses.

We have two digital cable boxes and pay something like $6 for the first upgrade, and $12 for the second.

Overall, I love mine. TiVO has a better interface by far though, but it kicks the crap out of the ReplayTV we have in the living room. The best part is the dual tuner and the picture in picture.

Oh.. And.. Check this out.. On the box, hit the button between the direction arrows and the enter button and hold it until it beeps. At that point, hit them again.. It's the diagnostic screen where you can view the units IP and all sorts of fun stuff. It looks like it might not be long before cable modems and your cable box become the same unit.

(Think punk scene: you know what a fat records band is going to sound like before you even press play). We'll also see labels start providing health insurance and accounting assistance to aid future MC Hammers. Ahhh, the possible return of the career artist

I appreciate the effort, but it's common friggin' sense. All in all? An interesting read if all your other books are finished and theres nothing on TV.
