The GPL may not guilty of price fixing but it's most definitly the worst business model ever.
How can a license be guilty of price fixing? Its just a bunch of words. Its also not a business model, its a software license with a simple rule. If you use and distribute, you must distribute the code. Why is that so hard for some people to grasp?
Man, this lady is insane. Price fixing the price down? hahah. Isn't price fixing when major competiors agree to keep the price high by not competing on price?
if you use & modify, you have to provide the changes you made when asked..
Actually, thats false. If you code is based on GPL code then you have to provide the source code when you distribute the software and only then. You don't have to supply patches or anything back to the original guy either. As long as you make the source code available in some way then you have fulfilled your obligations to that part of the GPL.
So basically, if you take a GPL program and modify it for in-house use, and the original author emails you asking for the changes to the code, your not required to hand them over.
"Undersecretary of Commerce Phil Bond, a top Bush administration technology official, pointed out that the unemployment rate for engineers is above the national average."
These wouldn't happen to be faux engineers would they? The dime a dozen Ameritrain, cram all you possibly can about pointing and clicking the night before the test Miscrosoft Certified System Engineer's?
I find that using optimization flags causes a lot of apps to use more CPU, not less. The performance boost comes from being able to use more features on the CPU, so compiling a app that is a CPU hog with serious optimizations will probably cause it to use more CPU but complete code execution faster.
Well, I was responding to someone who commented that a basic Linux installn needed a high price consulant. I was simply stating that all I do is click "Next" a few times and its done. There is no magical secret to installing Linux. You need to be competant but the defaults will usually get you up and running in no time. I have not clue what I could charge for what you are asking about.
Yeah, I'm one of those high paid consultants. I charge $100 per machine to install Linux and that includes setup of a few of the most common apps they might run like Apache, mySQL, etc.
I pop a Fedora CD in, click 'Next' about 8 times, pick the softwaae I need, change the CD 3 times, and reboot. Thats it.
This whole thing sounds like some idiot tried to install Mandrake RPM on a Redhat system and got all bitter because it broke the shit out of something.
I don't care what Redhat and Suse do, the smaller distros and other groups do most of the innovating when it comes to alternative file system layouts, alternative rc.d stuff, latest kernels and libs, etc.
Usually, if someone is bitching about Linux not having any 'standard', that means they just don't get it. Without MS holding their hand everystep of the way while they point and click their way to IT manager glory, they are about as skilled as a fast food manager or retail clerk with a PC hobby.
There are many digitial cameras and basically only one photo editor....not sure why Nikon would be so foolish. The Professional AP photographers I know are not that advanced computerwise. I think they would rather just use a Canon than a Nikon if its going to make editing the images easier.
LOL...that was the plan man! How soon people forget. The whole point of ActiveX is vendor lock. Their plan is obviously workin but now that 'vendor lock in' is a hot topic when people develop a new system from scratch they are not opting to use ActiveX. Those of you stuck with ActiveX, thats your own fault.
...is if they did all real news and 1 really good april fools joke that at least tricked some idiots into posting long diatribes about how they are going to contact their senator or never buy another
Snickers bar ever again.
I've been trying to apply for a job at Novell for quite some time through their website. I have a CS degree from Virginia Polytech and have donated tons of code to open source and worked some some pretty big projects I've used Linux for the last 10 years and they won't even give me the time of day.
Was this 'dragon sword' the best sword in the game? If it was well, then ya, its ok to kill the guy. Im mean, after it, it WAS the best sword ever. Thats huge when your trying to pick up chicks.

She could teach at a high school or college for double that.
Well, if you can't figure out what the message says with the ', then you deserve your certification.

I'd like people to switch so I don't get calls at 2am about this "dr. Watson" person that keeps popping up.

Does this new GCC have a transparent background?
I was shooting for +5 funny...damn.

The U.S. announces its "war on large rocks".
I've never seen so many Windows people post under one topic before. Talking about "patchin" and "clicking on .exe files". How quaint.
On my system, Athlon XP 2500, is much faster a way more stable than 5. 5 crashes on me whenever I do a search and at other random times.

Thats because all IT projects involve users who are constantly saying "It would be nice if it did...."
They are all busy emerging....

They have CTU and Kiefer Southerland though. Edgar would simply hack into the servers and take the logs using his l337 socket skills.
