"Canadian officials made clear on Wednesday that any U.S. citizens so fed up with Bush that they want to make a fresh start up north would have to stand in line like any other would-be immigrants -- a wait that can take up to a year."
By interoperability, I meant mixing with the wider world of user machine configurations/combinations. Which is near impossible for any one company to test fully. By GUI, I meant GUI usability. Again, can be tested inhouse with a limited number of users, but you need to let it loose with a wide range of regular civilians. Funcionality = "Hey, wouldn't it be neat if it did X". "ok...we'll see"
But again, cookie/security issues such as this should never made it past alpha.
Account security problems should be worked out long before public beta status. Beta should be reserved for functionality, GUI, and interoperability issues.
If you'd spend but a minute or two cruising around the dell site, you might come across this:
"Dell(TM) Dimension(TM) n series desktops offer affordable, everyday small business computing power. Extra economical because they come without a Microsoft® operating system; a copy of FreeDOS(TM) open-source operating system is included in the box, ready to install."
Try ordering a Dimension series without Windows, for instance. Not possible!
3 clicks Dell|Small Business|Desktops "Dell Alternative Operating System Desktops" is listed right there with the others. 'N Series' Dimension, Optiplex, or Precision. Either RH or no OS (FreeDOS in the box).
Maybe it's just me, but as an Ohioan I suspect a personal letter from someone in the UK
You know what offends me about that whole deal? That a foreign citizen/corporation could buy, from the local city/county/state government, a list of US citizens, names, home addresses and party affiliations for a very few dollars.
Not that I'd have anything to hide, but its nunya dam bidniz!
That brief blip may be enough to get their name on several lists.
[newpaper headline] "XYZ.com implicated in child porn ring! Here is an example of an email sent from their coroprate office."
Various religious groups, web filtering db's (i.e. WebSense or NetNanny), and the like seize on this. Online traffic and sales plummmet.
[a few days/weeks later, buried on page 8] "XYZ.com was the victim of an extortion ring. However, the child porn connection has not been totally ruled out. FBI and local police are still investigating."
How much work do you think it would take to their name removed from all those lists and db's?
I only regret that I never got around to owning a X/19...
I had one (green '74), and my dad had one( red '75). Rusted like no tomorrow. Crappy electrics (bare wires leading into connectors). Suspension mounts could be stronger(one rusted clean away). Aluminum cyl head had a tendency to warp. Doors froze shut (upstate NY winter).
Maybe you should be allowed to have those features if you have a good driving record.
Unenforceable. SpouseW has a clean driving record, her car has all the toys. SpouseH has had 4 speeding tickets in 3 years. Whats to keep him from driving his wife's car?
Or, due to a good driving record, you're allowed to have some video toys. After a couple of tickets/crashes (maybe because of the toys), are you going to be required to take them out?
Or...a new driver has, by definition, a clean record. Also, they are typically the worst drivers. Toys, or no toys? I guess you could put a 5 year clean record requirement on it. Only after the waiting period do you get to install the toys.
why can't I get some kind of bonus?
You do. Cheaper insurance rates. More toys for in the house.
All this technology in the car and I still can't plug my laptop in and get the report as to why the check-engine light is on
Yes you can. I've saved about $500 in the last year using this. Diagnosed an intermittent misfire, a weird overheating problem, and checked out a potential used car buy.
There are several other versions around, from $88 to over $500. However, you still need basic troubleshooting skills.
...a monitor, keyboard and mouse are already available.
Why? Someone who only wants to/can only pay $100 for a PC likely doesn't have these around. Someone who does have these around, probably doesn't want a $100 PC. A computer is more than the box. Input and output devices are kind of required to actually do anything with it.
Tokyo, Nagoya, Kobe, Osaka, Yokohama...all bombed pretty well flat.
Where do you get the idea that I think something is wrong with the voting process, or that 'the (slight) majority of Americans don't agree with me'?
What in my parent post gave any indication of how I voted?
The Canadian immigration officials might have a different opinion.
"Canadian officials made clear on Wednesday that any U.S. citizens so fed up with Bush that they want to make a fresh start up north would have to stand in line like any other would-be immigrants -- a wait that can take up to a year."
And liberty is a well armed sheep contesting the vote.
Funny how that works, isn't it?
Only if all of those prrovisionals are for Kerry.
Not happening.
and currently, Bush is ahead about 100k in Ohio.
currently(12:18AM eastern):
237-195 (ABC)
234-188(CNN)
246-207(Drudge)
And this is already counting Californa, Kerry's mainstay of the late closing Western states.
Sadly, for the last 60 years, most of them.

So go ahead. Write him one. Or at least a demo version. You should be done before the sun goes down, right?

Kerry is not necessarily popular. It's just that Bush is unpopular, and Kerry is the only alternative.
"ABB" reigns.
